Emily Morris (emilymorris8) My Nomination for our October book is Educated by Tara Westover
This book is an autobiography about the Author’s experience growing up isolated from main-stream society with her survivalist family in Idaho. During her childhood, she was not given a formal education, never saw a doctor, and suffered abuse at the hands of her brother. Westover rebelled from this world and begun to educate herself. She learned mathematics and grammar and was admitted to a university. She went in to attend Cambridge University.

I think we should read this book because Westover’s journey can inspire us all as students. The greatest influence in our early life is our family and culture, and thus it is very hard to escape this. Westover was bold enough to go against her upbringing and pursue her desire to learn. Westover was able to overcome abuse and started from zero education and ended up earning a Ph.D. We all have individual struggles we overcome throughout our education, and this book can open up some interesting discussion about Westover’s journey and our own educational journeys.

shay (selene2) | 6 comments I nominate Vicious by V.E. Schwab. I'm not too sure what the book is about because I wanted to select I book I had never read and did not want to do so much research that I would spoil it for myself. But I have come across a lot of the authors others works and know she is quite popular. Anyways, from what I've read, there are two boys, Victor and Eli, who are best friends and roommates. They go on extreme adventures together and find out they may have supernatural powers. After attempting to test their hypothesis something goes wrong and Victor apparently ends up in prison. 10 years later he breaks out and starts looking for Eli with the help of a girl whom also has powers. Meanwhile Eli has made it his mission to kill all others who have superpowers except his sidekick. They both seem to be vying for revenge and will eventually cross paths. Like I said I haven't read the book but I encourage you guys to check it out for yourself as I probably didn't explain the plot very well.

I don't have an extremely insightful reason as to why we should read this book but I think it sounds very interesting and it has great reviews!

Bohdana (bookhoardingdrakon) I nominate Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman. I haven't read it but from what I know it's urban fantasy and comedy with angels and demons, and something about waiting for an apocalypse of judgement day (also a misplaced Antichrist was mentioned in the summary). I know there's an adaptation of it, but with adaptations I try to read the book first so I haven't seen it. The set-up sounds interesting to me and has a good rating (though based on some of the comments, the humour might not be for everyone).
