Witch boy Alex Cato I very much enjoyed the writing of Molly Knox Ostertag and the way she created her own magical world and civilization. The way she wrote was extremely easy to read and very understandable. Witch boy is a fiction novel that has some clear metaphors that relate to the world that we live in today. In this magical universe women are trained in witchcraft and men are normally trained to be a shape shifter. a young man names Aster is the protagonist and he is a very likable and relatable character. Aster and his family have a bond that is interesting in its own way in relation to the witch’s powers and animals the men would choose shapeshift into. Aster is gifted with powers but would rather be a witch than a shapeshifter because he never felt a strong enough of a connection to one animal. This is a big struggle between the family because there are rules to magic. In this book it felt like each character has its own place to play, much like the wizard of oz. Aster ends up meeting a non-magical friend named Charlie. I loved the relationship between these two friends, no matter what obstacle arose they had always had each other’s back. Aster coming from a magical family was forbidden to be around people without magical properties. When Asters family finds out they go through a series of events that will change their dynamic forever. If I had to guess, and it isn’t said outwrite in the book. This book actually about gender roles and how they make people feel.
