Good morning!!

Wishing everyone a lovely long weekend with much to be thankful for even though holiday dinners may be different this year.

My thoughts on thanksgiving have changed with all the learning and reading so will reflect on what I am thankful for instead - family, friends, health, and of course, I am grateful for all the readers in this group and the enthusiasm for everything books!

We have a little less than3 months left of BIngo and I am
Curious as to how your reading is going? If you completed last year, please send me your square suggestion.

What have you read this week and what is next?

Have a great day!

Allison ༻hikes the bookwoods༺ (allisonhikesthebookwoods) | 1783 comments @Susan, I completely agree that there are many negative aspects to Thanksgiving, and Canada Day too, which need acknowledgement. I hope we can learn to focus on the positives of each and keep them on our calendars. There is so much to be thankful for. My mother had the wonderful news this week that her breast cancer has not spread so we are looking forward to a very special Thanksgiving this year.

I'm just a couple of books away from completing Bingo 2020 and looking forward to planning Bingo 2021! Can we expect it soon?

This week I read the latest Cormoran Strike novel, Troubled Blood, and I loved it. I would like to check out the BBC series. Has anyone watched it?

I'm now listening to Mexican Gothic, but I'm not sure what I think of it. I do love that the author page describes Silvia Moreno-Garcia as "Mexican by birth, Canadian by inclination."

I'm also still working on Tyll and A History of Reading.

Susan | 852 comments Happy Friday! Allison, I'm so happy to hear about your mother's good news!

I have completed 21 bingo squares so far and have the remaining squares planned out, so it's just a matter of finding time to read those books.

This week I finished Transcendent Kingdom. There was nothing wrong with this novel but somehow it didn't engage me. I think there was too much religion in it for my taste (the character grows up with an evangelical church as a big part of her life).

I'm in a bit of an awards reading slump now, so I've got too many books on the go. I'm still plugging away at Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents, which is very good but depressing. I am nearing the end of Clyde Fans, which I find myself impatient with. I'm not enjoying Polar Vortex, unfortunately, but I will finish it because of the Giller nom. My fun read is Halsey Street, which I have on my Kindle for early-morning reading when it's still dark out.

@ Allison ༻hikes the bookwoods༺, so happy to hear about your mom!! Definitely something to be very thankful for!!

This week I finished The Paris Orphan and Conversations with RBG: Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Life, Love, Liberty, and Law in audio, both of which I enjoyed.
Currently reading A Time to Kill and listening to The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Wanda | 769 comments Wishing the group health with happiness however you may celebrate the Thanksgiving weekend.

@Susan, I am grateful for all the work you put into keeping our group active and a place where we can all come together and place some worries behind us, sharing in the comfort of books and gaining healthy social connection.

@Allison, so relieved for you and
your Mom. Great news!

@May, I loved RBG...she was a gem

@Susan, I am sorry to hear about Polar Vortex, bummer. Gillers aren't always enjoyable to me either and yet I want to get through them.

I completed Hidden Valley Road this week. It was tough to finish, so much tragedy in one family unit. Just started Hamnet & Judith, compliments of my Secret Sender...! Heard so many good reviews. For book club we are reading Shoe Dog by Phil Knight. Not sure if it will suit my fancy. Take care everyone.

@Alison Hikes - I am SO happy to hear your mom's news!! such a relief!!!
Yes to the BINGO - I am working away at it and hoping to get the suggestions from last year's readers who completed squares.

@May - The Immortal Life of HL will always stick with me. I learned so much from that book and it is so shocking to read about the poor treatment HL received and how her family has struggled despite all the medical advances that have come from her cells.

@Susan - great progress on the BINGO!

@Wanda - thank you so much for your kind words... I have such a great time with this group.

I have had a quiet week of reading. Just finished 28 Summers which was a total beach read.. .sometimes I just need a bit of fluff. it was a quick read and makes me want to visit Nantucket!

I am in the midst of The Answer Is…: Reflections on My Life learning a bit more about Alex Trebek (Canadian from Sudbury, Ontario) and the history of Jeopardy. I am also midway through Halfbreed.

We discussed The Pull of the Stars at book club this week and everyone enjoyed it despite the serious topic which is so resonant today. I am sorry that it did not make the Giller List.

Heather(Gibby) (heather-gibby) | 466 comments Unintentionally, I seemed to be diving into the spirit of Halloween rather early as I am reading Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury and Lisey's Story by Stephen King and Witch: Unleashed. Untamed. Unapologetic..

I think this is the most behind on the Bingo that I have ever been, I still have 10 left, and not sure if I will get to them all by the end of the year. If I can find what I need in audio I will have a better chance.

Mj @ Heather (Gibby) - I'm in the same Bingo Bracket - 9 to go. Have my choices picked out and lined up, although paper is my preference. Wishing you luck finding your audio choices. Have the utmost confidence that you will complete all 25 squares and will be cheering for your success all the way to the finish.
