Somebody talking about me?
Lljones wrote: "(There is a way to embed images directly into these posts, rather than posting a link to another website. But if you have a pet snake - or spider I guess, although I do not mind them - please do not embed them 😱!
Yes, it's possible to embed a picture, you need to click just above the conversation box on '(some html is ok)'. You'll find instructions at the 'image' bullet point.
A reminder that you can embed pictures in a post by using the "img" HTML command (click on "(some HTML is ok)" above the comment box for details). I don't have a pet, but here's one of my backyard fauna:
Bill wrote: " I don't have a pet, but here's one of my backyard fauna"So lovely Swelter! Have you seen little ones? We're lucky to have some roaming foxes in our urban back gardens (or just the one who keeps coming back), but no pup so far!

So fine. Not long ago I was discussing foxes with friends and family. I can't remember ever seeing one. My siblings tell me there were a few in our childhood neighborhood, but I don't think they're very prevalent in Oregon. On the other hand, saw a skunk running across my front yard a few days ago.

Lljones wrote: "Yeah, been fiddling with those instructions, haven't figured out the magic formula yet."Let me know if you can translate them - meant nothing to me. Copy/paste of dog photo didn't work, that's for sure.
Animals in booksFor a very long time, several years in the naughties, I was in and out of hospital chained up to a drip to keep me alive and, what did I read? What kept me going? Oddly, for one who did not read fantasy it was the Robyn Hobb series that starts with Assassin's Apprentice. I've read them all. survived with Fitz, worshipped his wolf, Knighteyes, cried when that creature died. lived in this odd world that kept me sane during troubled times.
The series may not be great literature but it was just what I needed then away from my dogs so much Knighteyes became an imaginary substitute, quite real to me then, that I shall always remember

Yeah, I can't get it to work either. Your babies are gorgeous though!

We're trying to embed images rather than post links. Apparently only Swelter has the secret recipe.

Yeah, tried all that, no dice. Even had Swelter send his html string for his image and it didn't work for me either. Annoying.

Can't sort out the technicalities yet but managed to put a picture to my alias. It is my beautiful rescue JD. who is now 12 yrs old.He has younger adopted sister called Ellie (The Lady Petronella) also black. She was rescued by my elderly aunt who passed away a couple of years ago so we adopted her very shy puss. They both now boss us about unmercifully.
*Why JD. is so named is another story..
Thanks to help from Bill, I've sorted this out (after about 10 hrs messing with it. Aargh). I'll put together a post with instructions for anyone else trying to embed photos.
Greenfairy has black kitties, Adina has at least one, anyone else?

Ok, here’s how to embed a photo in a Goodreads post:
--First of all, the photo needs to be available on the web (no uploading of images to GR available). And I learned through my troubles that Instagram photo urls don’t work for some reason. I got mine to work from my Twitter account; assume other photo websites work as well.
[img src="Insert your photo’s web address here (between the quotes)" width="400" height="300" alt="Insert caption here"]
Replace the brackets at the beginning and end of this string with angle brackets ( < and >), insert your own web address and caption, then copy/paste into your post. (You can change the width and height values if you like, though there are some max parameters on GR).
For example, the string to my photo of Mario above is:
[img src="https://pbs.twimg.com/media/ElqioqaVg..." width="400" height="300" alt="Mario"]
Good luck!

I had posted this before for MarGar/Lola; it was taken last year and he (?) was being very playful in our neighbours' garden. If this is the same one I've seen many times now in our own back garden he's now grown and got a more bushy tail!
Btw, the postimg website that I've recommended for TLS does not allow you to embed the picture here, I've just checked.
PS: The font of goodreads is all over the place. And I'm looking at the website at the same zoom level, on the same device. Sometimes it looks one way, but it increasingly looks different (and smaller), grrr.
Slawkenbergius wrote: "That's it!"Flinty, would you mind telling me where you got this pic from (and by that, I mean which exact url have you used in your html command)? It appears now as a goodreads one, so I'm a bit confused, it's as if there is a place where these pics get saved (read: perhaps harvested) on goodreads.
Gladarvor wrote: "Slawkenbergius wrote: "That's it!"Flinty, would you mind telling me where you got this pic from (and by that, I mean which exact url have you used in your html command)? It appears now as a goodr..."
There you go
[img src="https://memegenerator.net/img/instanc..." width="400" height="300" alt="That's it!"/]
(You only need to replace the square brackets with chevrons like Lisa said and you're done)
Slawkenbergius wrote: "There you go[img src="https://memegenerator.net/img/instanc..." width="400" height="300" alt="That's it!"/]"
Thanks! Ok, so that's what I thought: people who are touchy (that might be only me!) about their data being stored should be aware that goodreads then save the picture you have linked from another website. In your case (and that of Swelter), I've found the pics there: https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/comp...
So it's a negative for data harvesting, but a positive if you have a personal webpage you don't necessarily want to link to!

He's gorgeous!!!
Gladarvor wrote: "I think I know what you mean. Something like that ? "That looks thinner (and maybe longer) than any I've seen. I've never seen a fox above ground level either (at least in person). The foxes I thought were juvenile looked fairly close to adults in size (a bit smaller) and appearance; it was more their attitude that distinguished them: running after each other, jumping out from cover to grab one another. If an adult is present at these goings-on it is relatively still, watching but not participating in the shenanigans.
Here are my two little monsters: Sophie, who fancies herself a super-model, is showing off her "I'm cute! I'm cute!" pose. Tasha can't be bothered with the whole "being cute" thing when there are more compelling tasks at hand (or at foot, as the case may be). Thanks to all who posted tutorials on how to imbed pictures!
All this inflow of felines reminded me of an old song by The Presidents of The United States of America
Under pets at my house are the words - Been there, done that. However, it is appropriate that I am listening to
#21 in this of so cute mystery series - dog lover, very rich attorney, New Jersey! These are great when you are doing something else - like I should be in the yard.
That one in my icon is Stella. We adopted her and her sister (Frieda - who was always very poorly and died in 2014) in 2012 after the last of our childhood cats died of old age. Instead of a kitten, we thought it would be nice this time to adopt two middle-aged North London ladies (they were already six). Weirdly, though, of all the cats we've had they turned out to be the least worldly, the worst at hunting, the soppiest, the clingiest and the most baby-like. The adoption place also told us they had cat OCD probably being taken from their mother too young, and sensitive tummies (Frieda had IBS, did shits the size of small squirrels).Stella's interests include: a constant need for human companionship and cuddles (think she may secretly be a dog), scowling at the gentleman callers who visit our garden, trying to put her arse on my face for some reason (...hopefully not with murderous intent), always standing with her paws turned out like a ballerina, sleeping on radiators, and being the softest cat in the world.
She also tries to single handedly disprove the "cats have staff" stereotype by being the most good-natured animal I've ever met. Even when she's playfighting she makes sure to not swipe with her claws. She used to patiently put up with her sister stealing from her bowl, and her sister working out how to open and eat both timer feeder bowls (when we were away for the night). She used to wash her sister whenever her sister demanded it, and now often washes her humans.
This was my cat essay, respectfully request Stella be nominated for a cats-of-TLS spot.
Trying to work out how to post photos was a bit of a faff but I like to bore everyone by posting photos of her on my Twitter fairly regularly: https://twitter.com/miririnmirimi
Miri wrote: "Trying to work out how to post photos was a bit of a faff but I like to bore everyone by posting photos of her on my Twitter fairly regularly: https://twitter.com/miririnmirimi"Love the one you're using as the banner for the twitter account! (Haven't got time at the moment to explore further, but will do.) As I mentioned before, she so looks like a Japanese cat, straight out of a Foujita!
Well! What a cheering thread while trying not to look at the news hahaha. I have two black cats too.. I will wrestle with the tec to send a picture when I have more time. They are twins, both black but look completely different. One is huge, friendly and terrified of other cats. The other is timid with everyone outside family but a real alpha fighter, though small. One has yellow eyes, the other green. They like to wake me around four because cats.
Miri wrote: "She is definitely the prettiest one in her family!"She was born with fur, and she can purr, these are distinctly unfair advantages tbh! (Can't believe she's 14, she looks so youthful, almost kitten like.)
Caroline wrote: "Well! What a cheering thread while trying not to look at the news hahaha. I have two black cats too.. (Editing this as I now can see that you also have a dog as your current avatar too.)
Miri wrote: "Trying to work out how to post photos was a bit of a faff"PS: Yes, including them in a post is no mean feat if you do not have your own website (and only twitter on social media). An easy alternative is to add more photos to your profile, the way Paul did.
I shall tell her that you said she is youthful looking and beautiful :) she is currently curled up on my stomach watching awful horror films.
Miri wrote: "I shall tell her that you said she is youthful looking and beautiful :) she is currently curled up on my stomach watching awful horror films."Ah! Yes, please do tell her. I think Andy/@safereturn on the main thread was asking if somebody had seen a certain horror film he'd like to discuss. You're the likeliest candidate!
I was about to go to sleep with some hope after they had called Michigan, but then I made the tragic mistake of checking one last time, when they started questioning the outcome in Arizona that had already been called. So, if like me you've been silly enough to stay up until an indecent hour last night with no discernible benefit in knowledge to show for it, you might get cheered up as I was by this dog (disclaimer here: unlike a few TLSers, I usually do not like dressed up pets, but this one really cracks me up): Paddington!
Gladarvor wrote.. I thought from your previous avatar..(I really need to work out how everyone does the quoting..)
Cat and dog person here! My cats were brought up with the dog and they absolutely adored her. She passed on to the next level earlier this year and I have only recently been able to talk. She was a beauty. Very gregarious, wise and kind. Had her as a rescue pup from a litter of fifteen at four weeks.
Miri wrote.. about Stella being maybe a dog on the inside. My Hunter's just the same. Loves walks and cuddles and other dogs! He'd love to chase cats if only he had the nerve.
Caroline wrote: "(I really need to work out how everyone does the quoting..)..."
Hi Caroline - click on the tiny 'reply' link at the bottom of any individual post, and the GR system auto-fills the first 3 or 4 lines of the post.

I'm so sorry to hear that CookieHunter/Caroline. I bet she had a very good life with you - and the cats! - though. A litter of fifteen? Jesus, poor mum.
After a pitiful failure to upload a profile photo from my laptop, I gave up and downloaded the GR app onto my mobile (Android)... this has allowed me to add Teddy's photo to my profile.Teddy is a 6 1/2 year old rescue mongrel, thought to contain some terrier and collie... he is a very unusual shape - low but very long - not clear in the foreshortened photo. He loves chasing the waves, small furries (when he gets the chance) and barking at the window when in a grumpy mood.
