November 2020 Mini Challenge: Honoring Our Veterans
Begins: 01Nov20 / Ends: 30Novt20

Many countries honor veterans during Remembrance Day ceremonies in November. Originally this holiday was called Armistice Day in honor of the peace which came after World War I ... at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month.

TASKS
Read a book ...
* Where the main character is either an active member of the military, or is a veteran (any service branch, any country, any war)

* With a main page genre of WAR (Can be embedded, as in "civil war")

* First published in a year with two '1's (e.g. 2011, 1981, etc)

* Whose title begins with a letter in ARMY -or- in NAVY (Exclude leading articles: A, An, The)

* By an author whose first and last initials are found in COMBAT VETERAN. Ignore middle initials, if used. Initials may be used only as often as they appear in the target phrase.

===========================================

All books used must be a minimum of 100 pages long - Page length determined by HARDCOVER 1st edition. If there is no Hardcover, then the most popular paperback governs page #.

You may read in any format - text, audio or e-book. If using audio or e-book I suggest using Amazon.com's "look inside" feature to get a page number for your quote.

You MUST finish the book before you can claim credit for completing a task.

A book may be used for only one task, even if it would satisfy the challenge for multiple tasks.

EXAMPLE of a successful post:
Title begins with a letter in BLUE: - The Unteachables ✔ - 31May19

If you'd like to be recognized as finishing, the challenge, please post a new comment alerting me to your finish. I do not get notifications when you edit your original post.

Have Fun!

Thanks so much. It's easier when you have 10,000 books you'd like to read but I got lucky again this month. Four of the books I read I needed to finish before the end of the year for one of my challenges, and the last one had been a choice for another challenge that didn't work out and I'd been wanting to read so it gave me an excuse! One of the few things that have gone right during this extraordinarily "different" year!!! Hang in there, I'm always happy to see what you read...and many times add them to my list. Actually I check out everyone's to see what I think. You all have increased my list considerably!!!

Terris | 748 comments Well, I'm "done," but I'm not "finished"!! Four out of five is going to have to do it for me.
I just don't have any plans to read a book in the "War" genre . But that doesn't mean I won't sometime.
So I may finish yet, but it might not be this year! ;)
Thanks for the fun! I enjoyed it :)

No problems, Lee. I never lock the challenges, so feel free to add that last book any time. I also have 4/5 done this month.

Thanks, I may have to do that! And, as it so happens, I have a book on my list set in the Civil War that I'm set to read pretty soon, so it will fit right in :)

Looks like you had 4 good reads...I think I added them all to my own list. The one about teaching sounds really interesting. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!!!!

Thanks for the encouragement! The books I read were pretty good.
Yes, our Thanksgiving was fine, if pretty quiet. Hope you had a nice, safe one :)
