Yay! It's Giller week! I've finished all the books except Ridgerunner, which I am slowly making my through. It's very well written, but not very engaging. I tend to fall asleep after a few pages at night. This week I finished one audiobook, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents. What a fantastic book of particular poignancy in the wake of current events.
Happy Friday! This week I finished Here the Dark: A Novella and Stories, which I enjoyed. I think there was one story I hated but otherwise the stories were good and the novella was very good, I thought. I also finished The Big Door Prize, which was just okay for me. It was too small-town Southern salt-of-the-earth hokey for my tastes.
I also wrapped up my awards reading with The Secret Lives of Church Ladies, a story collection centred around black women that is nominated for the National Book Award. It was great, and I love that an award list brought this small-press book to my attention.
I have also been dipping into the six new essays by Mindy Kaling available through Amazon Prime. They have been a good distraction during this stressful week.
I'm currently reading two books for bingo: Swing Low: A Life and The Ice Storm: An Historic Record in Photographs of January 1998. And my current fiction read is The Girl with the Louding Voice.

It's a good book and a good story but just not as gripping as The Outlander was so I ended up a bit disappointed. I have NO clue who to root for now for the Giller. I am presently listening to The Glass Hotel and reading Polar Vortex. I like them both but I still don't see a front runner. Maybe when I am finished these two (the others have been read already).
This week I finished reading The Johnstown Flood. I've enjoyed another of this author's books but this one was too dry. I'm still listening to The Swerve: How the World Became Modern on audio and finding it really interesting.
I haven't read the Giller books but am looking forward to the winner will be.
I have (but have not read yet) The Outlander. It's been sitting on my bookshelf for years. Sounds like I should read it. Everyone seems to have enjoyed it.
Fluff for me this week.... The Library of Lost and Found and The Wonder Boy of Whistle Stop which was a like a guilty pleasure and a follow up to Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe.
I have all the Giller books downloaded from the library and have only managed to read How to Pronounce Knife and part of Polar Vortex but am really struggling to stay engaged with reading lately... too much going on with COVID19, the election and keeping too busy.

Happy Sunday!I am so relieved the US election has generated some hope and normality for our American neighbours.
And because I was watching too much election coverage, I only finished Ties That Tether this week, even though it was a light read. It was a debut by a Nigerian born Canadian author. I would classify it as YA romance and it was enjoyable.
Currently reading When We Were Young & Brave.
