Just finished reading: "City of the Plague God" by Sarwat Chadda (★★★★☆), it is a mythology/urban fantasy middle-grade novel. It stars thirteen-year-old Iraqi-American Sikander “Sik” Aziz must stop the ancient Mesopotamian plague god Nergal from raining destruction and pestilence on New York City.

Chadda has created a wonderful narrative filled with fast-paced action and heavy doses of humor, this Gilgamesh-inspired novel benefits from a well-developed secondary cast. The touching exploration of adolescent grief, and the strong connections between Sik and his parents, provide additional nuance and depth.

Stina (stinalyn) | 36 comments Swing by Kwame Alexander with Mary Rand Hess. I don't know what "with" means here, and I think Hess is White, but taken literally, the prompt requires only one AOC, and Alexander meets that requirement.
