Happy Friday! Great news about Canada Reads! This week I reread In the Skin of a Lion to finish up bingo. I read this ages ago, shortly after it was published, so I had forgotten big chunks of it. And I had also forgotten that some of the characters' stories continue in The English Patient, so now I need to reread that as well. :-)
I'm still reading Just Us: An American Conversation. I'm also making my way through Hitting a Straight Lick with a Crooked Stick: Stories from the Harlem Renaissance, reading a story or two each day. As a palate cleanser, I'm also reading The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.
Happy Friday! I finished up Mexican Gothic and I am about to start Anxious People for book club. I might also get into House of Names by Colm Toibin. I bought it this summer and need a change. Stay healthy everyone!
@Susan - I didn't realize that... In the Skin of a Lion has been on my TBR list for a long time. I reread The English Patient last summer and realized that I had forgotten so much about it.
@Wanda - will be interested to hear what you think of Anxious People... I LOVED Beartown and A Man Called Ove but although I enjoyed Anxious People, it did not keep my attention quite the way his other books have.
I have had little time for reading but tonight finished If I Knew Then: Finding wisdom in failure and power in aging by Jann Arden. Thanks to my Secret Sender!! this was a great book. Arden is so open, honest and shares her own failures and reflects on aging. I am recommending this as one of the 5 books to choose from at my work book club. We have learned so much from reading The Skin We're In: A Year of Black Resistance and Power and Seven Fallen Feathers: Racism, Death, and Hard Truths in a Northern City and need an inspiring book for the new year.
