Please suggest one book only for our Non-Superhero graphic novel book discussion for January 2021. If you suggest more than one, then the first choice will be added only.

Then a poll will be sent out for the members to vote. And the winner will be our Group Non-Superhero graphic novel book discussion

Thank you.

Saga, Vol. 2 by Brian K. Vaughan

Preview: The smash-hit ongoing epic continues! Thanks to her star-crossed parents Marko and Alana, newborn baby Hazel has already survived lethal assassins, rampaging armies, and alien monstrosities, but in the cold vastness of outer space, the little girl encounters something truly frightening: her grandparents!

Preview:

There are some things that a child should never have to endure, but life can be cruel sometimes. Clara is only seven years old when she loses her mother to cancer. Before she passes away, Clara’s mother gives her a doll from the days of her own childhood. Clara doesn’t particularly like the doll at first, but it’ll prove to be a precious ally, accompanying little Clara along the rough road of grief and mourning, through all its stages.

Paul Perry (pezski) | 4 comments I'll nominate The Wicked + The Divine, Vol. 1: The Faust Act by Kieron Gillen et al

From the blurb:

Every ninety years, twelve gods incarnate as humans. They are loved. They are hated. In two years, they are dead. The team behind critical tongue-attractors like Young Avengers and PHONOGRAM reunite to create a world where gods are the ultimate pop stars and pop stars are the ultimate gods. But remember: just because you’re immortal, doesn’t mean you’re going to live forever. Collects THE WICKED + THE DIVINE #1-5

Brandon (sholundil) | 34 comments I'll suggest 'Lady Mechanica' by Joe Benitez.

This is an independently published book with Benitez doing both the artwork and writing. But it is all high quality and also is a Steampunk story with some great artwork. I always thought that there wasn't enough steampunk in Graphic Novels. It's a visual medium at its best and should be more popular and this book proves my point. It gets wordy at times but it is a fantastic book that seemed to have passed under that radar when it was released.
