Last year I've read the first novel by the author - Little Brother and was quite impressed. I've read his shorted works and non-fic earlier and I'm glad to try more
I have this downloaded somewhere on some of my devices. As soon as I remember where it is I will join.

This seems like an odd one to me, not seeing the appeal whatsoever.

Its geekiness is what bought me - most my friend are in IT and it is just close to me in ideas

As I really liked his story 'Clockwork Fagin' in Escape Pod: The Science Fiction Anthology I'm really curious to read more of his work. Some of his books are already a few years on my TBR-list.For those who want to read my review about aforementioned book and all the stories in it: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
If you're only interested in reading Clockwork Fagin: it's available on: https://escapepod.org/2011/10/20/ep-3...
Yesterday I started reading Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom, but as I'm reading several books at the same time I'll probably finish it only next week.
He is a great populizer (erm. what is the right word, one who presents scientific/tech stuff to broad audience/readership?) of how obsolete or even dangerous current usage of tech is, from devices spying on you and giving this info to unknown recipients (and even if you have nothing to hide I doubt you'd like if your naked photos are in public access) to copyright laws

Although I do want to mention that there are no nude photos (at least that I'm aware of, but who knows with Photoshop and all) 😋

I meant unintentional ones, like you undress before sleep when your notebook/phone is active (and potentially malware can have camera on w/o you knowing it)

I'm not really a Disney person, but I read a novella by this author a couple of years ago and thought it was fabulous so I decided to check this one out. So far I like it; it's geeky and quirky and fun as well as throwing out interesting ideas left and right. I'll probably finish it today or tomorrow; this is my first group read for this year. :-)

Actually I've always done those things automatically, just 'in case that'.
Probably I think too much. Or maybe not? 😋

Tau you don't, trust me!
Back to the subject of the book, whatever author's obsession with Disney is, it seems hella personal and I'm not convinced I wanted to know any of it.
While it's an easy read and I'm almost done with it, my patience is wearing thin. I can't even bring myself to think about the novel's shortcomings long enough so that I could post them here for the sake of discussion. I'm shocked to see it on our list, I am ready to spin any outrageous conspiracy theory about Disney paying someone off to get it nominated.
Also, while it's free now, Disney sold it in their gift shops. They had a blog where people were invited to "track down" all the author's favorite Haunted Mansion souvenirs and other bs on their blogs and websites.
I can't.. I just can't.
If anyone is interested, here's some info on Cory's fetish: https://boingboing.net/2012/10/22/how...

Just finished. Felt very juvenile to me. Bar one aspect, not even an original one, no redeeming qualities for me. No offense to anyone who liked it.
One of my favorite authors, Sabrina Calvo, is also obsessed with Disney. Her new book (which was supposed to come out in 2020, but you know how that year was) is described as a sort of post-collapse society where rich people have barricaded themselves inside Euro Disney. Knowing her style, I'm sure it is actually much more complicated than that. Her books are only available in French, by the way.Her grandfather (according to one source), Edmond-François Calvo, published a 1944 comic where Hitler is drawn to look like a wolf. Disney claimed it looked too much like their Big Bad Wolf character and got mad. That may be a part of her obsession with Disney.
The less-Disney version is here:

Anyway, I've got this Doctorow book on hold at the library and look forward to reading it. I don't have a Disney obsession, but I did enjoy my one visit to the park.
I can't remember the title of the short story I read previously by this author; it was about a young adult character earning meritocratic credit by playing a video game in order to settle Mars… It sounds silly but I thought it was great! (LOL)
