agreed.

message 4: by Papaphilly (new)

Papaphilly Well, the United States is a capitalism run country and it is by the far the richest country....

message 5: by :) (new)

:) | 162 comments Mod
but do you think that we’ve achieved being the richest country ethically?

message 6: by Papaphilly (new)

Papaphilly As compared to what? I think the first quest you have to ask is what is a nations greatest responsibility? I would say the welfare of its citizens. In this case, we are very fortunate.

Have we a checkered past, yep, and so does every other country on the planet. Have we hurt some, yep and so has every other country on the planet. Have we created a country where you can go to the level your abilities carry you? Yep, but not every country can say that is their case.

The United States has thrived because of the system we set up.

message 7: by Spriya (new)

Spriya | 41 comments Agreed- capitalism may not be the most ethical system, but neither are others. Capitalism has worked well for our country. There is no perfect system, but capitalism is a much better alternative to other authleft ideologies.

message 8: by ★Char.★ (last edited Jan 04, 2021 08:45AM) (new)

★Char.★ I agree with both of you!!! If we embrace communism/socialism, our country would be in runes. Take a look at some countries that have tried socialism. Venezuela. It never use to be like that. My mom studied abroad in college there to learn Spanish better. She had such a great time and she could easily go back to the U.S when she was finished. Now their citizens can't leave and have no freedoms. More examples are Russia, Nazi-Germany, (animal farm) It all seems to work in the beginning, but it will never work in the end.

message 9: by Spriya (new)

Spriya | 41 comments I am capitalist through and through- I strongly believe you can like a system, but acknowledge its flaws. Capitalism had worked splendidly for us, so there’s no point in changing it.

message 10: by ★Char.★ (new)

★Char.★ Capitalism WORKS!!
Communism= Failure

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

What do you think about socialism?

message 12: by ★Char.★ (new)

★Char.★ I DESPISE IT. It destroys countries, it has never worked and never will work. So many countries tried and they are all trapped.

message 13: by :) (new)

:) | 162 comments Mod
what countries are socialist?

message 14: by ★Char.★ (new)

★Char.★ https://worldpopulationreview.com/cou...
There are too many to name

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

That list includes some of the happiest countries in the world

message 16: by Hayden (new)

Hayden (thewiltedpetal) Capitalism is failing America. We have too many people on our streets and so many people who don't have the money to feed their families.
We don't know how socialism will impact America until we try it.

message 17: by Bumble (new)

Bumble Greenbriar (hernameiscrumpet) | 99 comments @charlene dude... iceland is on that list.... that’s one of the happiest countries in the world it’s not “trapped”...

message 18: by Spriya (new)

Spriya | 41 comments Bumble, being a social democracy is different from socialism/communism.

Look, here's the inherent issue with socialism. It's not just political; it's psychological.
Every person was born differently. No one person is alike, it's the beauty of human nature.
So by forcing people into the mold of a system emphasizing uniformity, we are defying the very nature of mankind. And that's the simple truth for why far left ideologies do not work.

message 19: by CR15PY (new)

CR15PY Norway, one of the happiest countries in the world is a Social Democratic country and is richer than the United States. Finland, another social democratic country, is the happiest nation in the world. Both of these countries have a mix economy which is regulated capitalism.

message 20: by Bumble (new)

Bumble Greenbriar (hernameiscrumpet) | 99 comments the list that was sent was social democratic, which I didn’t realise. thank you for clearing that up @spriya!

message 21: by Spriya (new)

Spriya | 41 comments No problem! Yeah, the Nordic model is incredibly successful as a whole.
Socdem is a mix of free-market capitalism, but within the idea of a welfare state- so a mix, essentially.

But we have MORE THAN ENOUGH jobs, some people just don't want to work. To quote Proverbs 10:4 "He who has a slack hand becomes poor, but the hand of the diligent makes rich" Meaning if you work hard then you can accomplish your goal.
And we DO know how socialism will impact it. Look at the socialist countries. Why do you think everyone wants to come to America....Because we are free, we have capitalism, people can start at the bottom having nothing and work their way up. You can't do that in any other country.

message 23: by ★Char.★ (new)

★Char.★ (I know maybe some of the countries may be happy, but I just said the ones that run under socialism. The countries that are trapped are China, Russia, Venezuela, Cuba......)

message 24: by Bumble (new)

Bumble Greenbriar (hernameiscrumpet) | 99 comments LMAO DID YOU JUST SAY WE HAVE MORE THAN ENOUGH JOBS WHEN YOUR ONLY SOURCE IS THE BIBLE?

message 25: by bookishcarli (new)

bookishcarli | 43 comments Charlene, again, the Bible is a book to live by, not a textbook. Also, we don’t ah e more than enough jobs. We might have when the Bible was written, but we don’t now. And really? All the rich are the most hardworking? Yeah because Trump worked SO hard......

Charlene, sometimes people don’t get the opportunities for good jobs, and so they don’t get money. They work for every penny, and yet you say they don’t have money because they’re lazy. Trump spends most of his time TWEETING. Do you really think that’s working hard?

Do you know how Trump made his money?

message 27: by eli ♡ (new)

eli ♡ Trump was BORN wealthy, and after that, he STILL wanted more money. So he started doing some shady stuff in the late 80's to collect even more money. But no, being rich wasn't enough for Trump, so he ran for U.S. President. And look where we are now.

He might not have been born a billionaire, but he was still born very rich. And I am very aware that he won an election. It's the reason our country is in a pandemic.

★Char.★ No china is the reason for the "China Virus"

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

It's not the china virus. I've already ranted about this once but just blaming china/chinese people won't help anything. my friend got seriously bullied because she was chinese and everyone thought that she was a virus or something

No, Donald Trump is not the cause of the pandemic. But he certainly did not help contain covid at all and he did spead covid. So he was A cause of the pandemic, but not THE cause of the pandemic. There are more than one causes, he was one of them.

OK, Fair enough.

Can you tell which country has done a good job? I also suspect you meant to say he was not the cause, but help spread it. Because he did not cause the Pandemic.

I don't know a country that has done a good job. I personally don't keep up with other country's polotics and stuff. But I do know that a bunch of countries have done a way better job than the US. I did just look it up and found this: https://www.movehub.com/blog/best-and... It said Taiwan handled it best and the USA handled it the worst.

Mel,

You are going to be exposed to all sort of things in your life you find offensive. Get used to it. Life is not easy and people are not nice. I find lots of things offensive and some of them I wish would just go away, but they are still here, but then so am I.

Taiwan has a far different situation than the United States, although I do not disagree they handled it better.

Bumble Greenbriar (hernameiscrumpet) | 99 comments new zealand did a good job.

message 46: by Papaphilly (new)

Papaphilly It is interesting about New Zealand, Australia, and Taiwan. You are certainly correct that they did better jobs. However, they are have the same condition, they are island and can control the borders much better. Yet, both New Zealand and Australia are both dealing with rising numbers. It is not a knock, but there is a reality.

message 47: by Bumble (new)

message 48: by Matthew (new)

Matthew Carr | 222 comments Those who point to America and claim that is shows the superiority of capitalism because it’s the richest country in the world are quick to ignore countries which are “poorer” yet still have higher standards of living and have people who are generally happier and healthier. They’re also quick to ignore that the richness of America is mostly owned by an elite class of people that we will never be a part of who earned their riches through ruthless exploitation and imperialism

message 49: by Matthew (new)
