thoughts on the confirmation of trumps second impeachment?

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

i also don't get the point of impeaching him.

i think it’s more to make a statement than to actually get him out of office. society just needs to understand that what he did was not okay.

His first impeachment passed 230-197, so no change there, and the Senate is unlikely to hear the trial until the day before Biden's inauguration.

that might be true.

message 6: by Papaphilly (new)

Papaphilly It is a waste of time and he is gone in a week. They ever learn.

message 7: by Matthew (new)

Matthew Carr | 222 comments I despise Trump but this is a waste of time and is just another political tool that establishment politicians will use to cater to their constituents without actually accomplishing anything meaningful beyond the purely symbolic.

message 8: by Papaphilly (new)

Papaphilly That I agree with, this is like cutting the tail off the dog. I am still waiting on someone to show me when he called for violent protests and overthrow of the government. I saw the speech and all i saw was him whining he lost.

message 9: by J. (new)

J. Gowin | 33 comments It's not a total waste of time, money, and credibility. Nancy got to pull her favorite impeachin' dress out of her closet.

message 14: by Ayla (new)

Ayla (storiesandfolklore) I think that, while it was a waste of time and slightly pointless, it has effect on his reputation. First president to be impeached twice. It's more of a statement that at least some of the American people are realizing this madness and the bad things he's done, specifically about the whole 'voter fraud' deal.

message 15: by Matthew (new)

Matthew Carr | 222 comments This is what I said about the last impeachment against Trump and I will say it again:

"The core thing to keep in mind while watching the impeachment spectacle is that killing children, overthrowing democratically elected leaders in other countries, drone bombing civilians, spieing on citizens without warranrs, overseeing the world's largest prison industrial complex, bailing out criminals who crashed the world economy, and taking bribe money from fossil fuel and health insurance corporations to defend their profits which are prioritized over public well being and the environmental are all NON impeachable offenses on BOTH parties.

It is only when the ruling class has a fight amongst itself that impeachment happens. Nixon stole from democrats, Clinton lied to republicans, and Trump tried to get dirt on the democrats with foreign bribes. In every case it is a beef between segments of the ruling class that results in a impeachment and nothing else. These scandals are not new to Trump and Trump is not even particularly unique in regards to american presidential politics, certainly he has exasperated the problems of the neoliberal and neoconservative creation, however Trump is not a deviation of the norm but rather the long term consequences of american establishment politics.

Of course Trump should not be president and the majority of us want to see him gone. But it is important we examine this spectacle with a critical lense of both established parties to help us understand how the system operates."

What do you guys think?

eli ♡ I understand that he will be out of office soon, but we can't have a repeat of what he's done over the past 4 years. I don't know what he's capable of, so they're probably doing that because they don't want to take their chances.

eli ♡ Charlene wrote: "YAY TRUMP 2024"

yes, because OF COURSE we want more destruction with him in office. Good idea Charlene.

message 24: by ★Char.★ (new)

★Char.★ Biden is going to undue all the good President Trump did in office. President Trump raised the military's pay, made them stronger in strength and numbers, built a wall to keep illegals out, is supporting the 2nd amendment and is working to get covid out of the United States, not to mention he LOVES America.

eli ♡ Why do you keep mentioning what he's doing for the military? You keep diverting from the fact that Tr*mp doesn't care about Americans. Now wait a minute Charlene, I can already see you typing a response. Just cool your beans and read the shit I gotta say because I frustrated and there's a lot of it.

If he cared about Americans, he would have notified Americans of the virus spreading in our nation. Don't blame that shit on China when they already dealt with a version of Covid-19 called SARS (severe respiratory acute syndrome), and how they deal with the virus isn't our business.

However, what is our business is how the president we elected is taking care of his "dear Americans". Ya know, the ones that he said "I love you" to in a tweet. But if he really "loved us", he wouldn't show appreciation to rioters who inflated his ego, and he wouldn't promote violence against BLM protesters.

I don't care about the shit he's doing for the military because if military soldiers contracted the virus, then what? Can Tr*mp just put more money into the government and HOPE it gets better? Tr*mp had multiple chances over the past few years to actually care about ALL AMERICANS over the past few years, but he failed. Let's see, he doesn't care about
-Black People (ya know, the people who were slaves and suffered for hundreds of years? Yeah, us.)
-Indigenous people (the people who gave America so much, and had their culture and lives taken for it.)
-Illegal and Legal Immigrants ( Tr*mp over here trying to throw them out and separate children from their parents. Yeah, he REALLY cares about us.)
-Any other person of color

A good president would not only care about the American people, but the millions of people around us. America isn't a planet, it's a nation on Earth. Why would you want a president whose ignorant to other cultures and nations?

Look, this a hot mess. But all I'm tryin' to say is that a "good president" you keep talking about isn't in office. We're trying to have a president that might actually listen to the shit we gotta say. I understand Charlene that you might not have been able to get out of the bubble you've been living in, but let me enlighten you. My people (Black people) have been dying, Americans and other people around the world have been dying, and we've all been suffering, but the man you support doesn't give a shit. That's what I ve been trying to say. I doubt you read this, but it felt good to type it even though my fingers are tired

Every president has raised our pay and numbers, Trump did nothing spectacular in regards to the military, the wall is an absolute failure and we should wanting to make the immigration process easier; not harder, he has banned bump stocks and added more gun regulations for the ATF to follow, has worsened the economy as well as a disastrous handling of the COVID, America is 4% of the world population but represents 25% of the world's COVID deaths this is a direct result of Trump's decision to fire the national pandemic response team as well as him even admitting to downplaying the severity of the situation. 386,842 Americans died as a result of his selfish narcissism, inability to manage the government in a way that benefits the people, as well as his toxic obsession with firing people.

Trump has caused thousands of children to be interned in inhumane conditions, often for months, resulting in miscarriages, deaths, injuries and traumatic separations from families, and without access to even rudimentary schooling.

He forced EPA workers into silence about environmental catastrophes which directly lead to the wildfire disasters that we saw in 2020.

He has made the United States unreliable, erratic and foolish in international affairs by disparaging its diplomatic corps, engaging in frequent and jarring changes in foreign affairs and defense advisors and repudiating international allies and partners.

He has reduced or eliminated independent science advisory panels in a quest to remove fact from policymaking when it collides with damaging policies he wishes to pursue.

He has insulted the disabled, women, the lgbt community, muslims, immigrants, and even made a mockery of the military. He spends time of natural disasters taking cheap photo ops or playing golf. What part of that screams success to you making you want to see it again in 2024? What part of that makes him seem like he loves Americans? Oh because he can hug a flag? Cheap propaganda trick.

Yea. Even though I want a better president that doesn't have a sketchy history and isn't a straight, white man. This is the best we're gonna get, so I might as well take it and make it better. And at least we're doing something by having a vice president who's a woman of color.

The second impeachment is quite brilliant if you're on the dems side. All you have to is ban Trump forever (not able to run in 2024) and dems will be happy. And, if they get Trump out NOW, no one can call out the dems on their treason. So, liberals rule the world, happy new year.

The ruling class rejoices in your pessimism and defeatist attitude. Reject them and embrace a truly revolutionary approach to political analysis and practice. A better more just world is possible, and we must create it. We can't let them win by default and by sucking it up and just saying "this is the best we will ever get"

They aren't spending any extra amount of tax dollars on the impeachment. Also it is more about ensuring he doesn't use his current position of power to keep himself in office and to keep him from running again.

Except, China did such a great job that the virus got loose onto the world. it was the nature of their type of politics and poor response that allowed COVID to escape.

If you want to blame Trump for his poor response to the Pandemic, fair enough. However, remember and acknowledge that if China had been on top of it from the start, Trump would not have had to deal with the Pandemic in the first place.
