LibraryCin | 11823 comments It’s hard to say how many women Ted Bundy murdered in the 1970s. Former Seattle policewoman Ann Rule was a friend of Bundy’s and it took her a long time to believe that he had actually done the things he was convicted of and put to death for. This book outlines the murders, as well as Ann’s friendship with Ted, and her realization that he did do those things.

Unfortunately, this was another abridged audio. Again, I feel like it was done well, in that I didn’t notice things that might have been missing. I just wish it had been the entire book! Like “Helter Skelter”, I did read this one back in high school, but given that that was 30+ years ago, I didn’t remember much of it. I actually hadn’t remembered the author’s friendship with Bundy at all (though the murders in Florida – the last ones he did – had stuck with me all this time, as well as other details about him). What I listened to was very good, though I’m not sure I’m a fan of Ann Rule reading her own books. Like with “Helter Skelter”, because this was an abridged version, I would still like to reread the entire book.

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8527 comments By the way, a close friend interviewed Bundy when he was on death row (My friend was working on his doctorate in Criminology). I remember him telling me, "Tessa, I KNOW what he did. I've read the actual law enforcement reports. But he is so damn charming, I would probably let my daughters date him!"

That abundant charm is what helped him fool so many people for so long.

LibraryCin | 11823 comments Wow, crazy!

I don't remember the abridged version talking about his charm as much. A bit, maybe, and that he was good looking. But, I do remember reading that before - how charming he was - and I assume I read it in Rule's book.

I might also go back and reread Small Sacrifices. I think I also read that one in high school. I know I watched the tv mini-series with Farah Fawcett.

Joi (missjoious) | 3970 comments I NEED to read this one!
Small Sacrifices is the one that hooked me on Ann Rule. Set where I live- eek!!

Olivermagnus (lynda11282) | 4956 comments I have Small Sacrifices as my #5 on the 2021 Unofficial Trim so I know I'm re-reading it this year. I also converted my old VHS copy of the Farrah Fawcett mini series so, grainy or not, I plan to watch it after I read the book. Those are my two favorites, but if I had to pick a third I would go with Dead By Sunset: Perfect Husband, Perfect Killer?. Another great miniseries with Ken Olin as the bad guy.

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12855 comments I to started reading this author in High School, i read everything, by her, that I could get my hands on. I use to love this type of book.

Crazy, Tessa, that you know someone who actually spoke with Bundy-I remember the parts about how charming he was-

Joi (missjoious) | 3970 comments RE: Small Sacrifices: If you folks get to Diane Downs- my coworker had her as her mailperson while she was growing up- She said she remembered her as nothing but nice, but that was quite a while before the crimes happened SO CREEPY!

If anyone can find the Farrah Faucet TV movie digitally, I'd love to see it! (other than sketchy youtube recording)
