Maybe it's because I live in the country, in a lonely place near a small lake. Not in a manor, unfortunately!
I'm so glad to read "The enchanting April" for many reasons and one of them is that it's settled in Liguria, where I've spent many happy holidays.
I have never read either of these books so I am in. :) I just ordered The Circular Staircase from my library so hopefully, it will be here soon and I also just purchased The Enchanted April from Chapters and it's supposed to be delivered by early March.

How scary is The Circular Staircase? Is it like a horror book? I don't read super scary books. :)
I would love to join in on these reads. Look forward to seeing how you arrange the reads and seeing your schedule. Thanks.
@Janice: No, it's not at all an horror.
It's just a mystery and not so scary too.
It's me, I'm super-sensitive.
Don't worry! It's an easy reading.
Neither of these books excite me, but I’m always open to mew things with groups. The Enchanting April is apparently on my TBR list here, so I must have decided it sounded good at some point. The GR description leaves a lot to be desired and I don’t really get what it’s about. I’ll have to do some research to get excited.
I bet I will too! Most books get me excited when I dive in! That’s the beauty of book clubs! They push you to read a variety!

Thank Miriam :) I'm very sensitive as well. My husband loves horror movies, not me. I still remember a movie we watched together 30 years ago!!!

I like the sound of that, "cozy mystery vibes. " :)
Hey guys, have you already started reading our March book? Just asking, do you prefer a paperback copy or do you read online?
Personally I hate reading e-books, though sometimes I have to.
It's not easy to find books in English in an Italian library if they're not great classics or bestsellers. That's why I buy them on ebay or amazon.
I found "The circular staircase" in a cheap hardcover copy on Amazon and bought it.
"Rebecca" was available at bookshops too for the Netflix serial.
If you have ever read a book translated and then in the original version you should know that it's not the same: words with different meaning or completely changed etc...Originals are still better.

I prefer paperbacks to e-books but resort to the latter when I don't have easy access to the former. The local selection isn't nearly as diverse as I need it to be and ordering books online was a pain in the behind before the pandemic let alone after. So for the majority of classics or books which are significantly cheaper in digital form, I use e-books.Never eardogs! :P They physically pain me 😂 Always a bookmark or whatever is handy to use in its stead
Hello!@Shannon - Yes, both these books still have my interest; I've never read either of them, will be fun:)
I was able to get the Circular Staircase e-book from my library yesterday. Haven't started reading yet, but will today. I already have the paperback of Enchanted April, which I have long wanted to read, and I have the movie, too, which I'm looking forward to watching after I read the book.
@Miriam and @Shannon - I live in the city in a lake community with a woods behind my house. We have a plethora of deer and wild turkeys. And we've seen a coyote, bobcat, pelican, eagles, herons, beaver, etc. It's really fun and peaceful.
I prefer reading paperback books, always. I'm grateful for e-books when I can't get the hard copy though.
I use bookmarks usually. It's only my favorite cookbooks that have the dog-eared pages! Plus spills and splatters and loose binding from overuse, so they are really loved:) And that's what makes them all the more special <3

I am waiting for the book from my library. I don't like reading online so I just have to be patient and wait for my books and if they don't come in on time then I just put it on my TBR list.

I only read physical books as reading books online bothers my eyes and I like holding the physical book. I use bookmarks except for my own books, sorry I do small dog ears. :) As for my cookbooks, I figure the pages that have little notes written on them and stains are the recipes my family loves best. :)
Miriam wrote: "I realized just know that I wrote ear-dogs instead of dog ears... This is embarrassing."
I just realized that I blindly copied you without stopping to think about it...
Double Embarrassing xD
@Miriam and @NadaI thought "ear-dogs" was a very cute and creative way to say it! :) I knew exactly what you meant, so no need for any embarrassment. It's all good!
I've started reading "The circular staircase". I rembember almost everything from my previous reading and it's less compelling this second time, but it's always interesting rereading a book.

That's so sweet of you 🤗

My experience with learning a new language is that it's an ongoing process. Miriam, this is such a wonderful goal that you have!! The pathway to this expertise is never-ending and always available. The key is to not ever give up! I think that conversing with those who are native speakers is one of the best ways to learn a language - and you're already doing this - which is simply awesome! Be patient with yourself, try to keep the learning process lighthearted and fun, and don't forget to celebrate your victories, no matter how big or small:) Oh and remember that even those of us who are native speakers still struggle at times with "how to say it." Hope that helps!

@Gia: Thanks for your kind and wise words.
I'll follow your advice.
I'm so glad to be able to exchange opinions with you all!

I still have my copy at handy.
I liked "The circular staircase" too. It gaves me nightmares though!
While I was reading it I used to dream that there was someone inside my flat. l hope this time will go better.
