Introduction
This story begins in the dusty streets of London, England. Most girls would be
outside, enjoying the rare, perfect sunshine, but not Elizabeth! She’s in the Library,
sitting on the floor with piles of books all around her. Elizabeth Kate Laurence, who
we’ll call Lizzy, was looking for books on British Monarchs.
Unfortunately for Lizzy, though, most of the books she was looking for were checked
out. As she flipped through “The Big Book of British Monarchs” an old, tattered book
caught her eye. She put down the book she was looking at and crawled over to the
shelf where the book was located. She picked up the book and dusted off the cover. It
said “Hcwarts a Hi tory”
“Hic-warts a Hi-torey??” she read. “Now, that can’t be right!”
She opened the book and said “Ah-ha! This sort of makes more sense! Hogwarts a
History…”
Lizzy sat down and flipped through the pages until she noticed something odd. The
pictures were moving!
“Gah!!” She yelled.
The grumpy librarian, Ms. Jane Amunami came around the corner and peered
down at Lizzy in a distrustful way.
“Umm, sorry Ms. Amunami!” Said Lizzy. “I-I just accidentally threw the book
because...umm...something bad happened to my favorite character...and I
was..surprised!?!!!!!”
“Sure! So then, what’s that?” asked Ms. Amunami pointing to the mysterious book.
“It’s mine!!” cried Lizzy quickly. She hastily picked the book up and put it in her
bookbag.
“Then you should have no problem letting me see it.” replied Ms. Amunami sharply
as she held her hand out.
“Fine.” growled Lizzy handing over ‘Hogwarts a History’
Ms. Amunami flipped through the book and said “Looks fine…. Blimey, it’s really
ripped up!”
“Yes, but it’s mine.” snapped Lizzy “ And I want it back!”
“Very well, you may have it back” sighed Ms. Amunami.
“Thanks.” With that, Lizzy grabbed ‘Hogwarts a History’, stuffed it in her bag, and
rushed out the door.
“Okay, peace to read this book.” Lizzy settled down and read her book until her
mom called her to dinner.
Elizabeth was excited, today was her birthday! Lizzy wasn’t excited just because it
was her birthday, though, she knew she was going to get her acceptance letter from
Hogwarts today. Lizzy already knew all about Hogwarts and their method of telling
kids when they came, so there she was, sitting on the windowsill when there it was!
A beautiful screech owl was soaring down, and in its talons was a letter.
“My letter! Mum, my letter is here!!” cried Lizzy.
“That’s nice, darling.” replied her mum absent-mindedly.
Lizzy was not paying attention, though, she was too busy opening her letter. She
read:
“HOGWARTS SCHOOL of WITCHCRAFT and WIZARDRY
Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore
(Order of Merlin, First Class, Grand Sorc., Chf. Warlock,
Supreme Mugwump, International Confed. of Wizards)
Dear Ms. Laurence,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft
and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment.
Term begins on 1 September. We await your owl by no later than 31 July.
Yours sincerely,
Minerva McGonagall
Deputy Headmistress”
Lizzy squealed. “I’ve been accepted at Hogwarts!!!!! Hooray!!”
Chapter 1, Year 1
Lizzy already got her stuff from Diagon Alley, and her parents have just dropped her
off where Platforms 9 and 10 meet.
‘How do I get to Platform 9¾?’ she wondered. She did not wonder long, though. As
she was walking, she saw someone run right through the barrier, and they had a cart
with an owl and a trunk! Lizzy was astonished, “How did they run through the
barrier without hurting themselves?” she wondered. “Well, I’ll have a go at it
anyway.” And with that she hurtled herself, along with her cart, straight at the
barrier, hoping she wouldn’t end up dead, or with a broken nose.
Lizzy did not die, and she did not break her nose. She successfully ran through the
barrier, and now she stood in the most beautiful train station she’d ever seen. And
there, in front of her was the most beautiful train she had ever seen.
“The Hogwarts Express!” She read the bright red letters on the side of the
magnificent train. “Well, I guess now I better get in a compartment before they’re all
full.” Lizzy grabbed her stuff and headed for an empty compartment. After looking
unsuccessfully, she decided to ask the small group of kids in one compartment.
“Excuse me, could I sit in here?” she asked nervously.
“Oh! Sure!” replied a bushy-haired girl. “I’m Hermione, Hermione Granger, by the
way”
“Elizabeth Laurence, pleasure to meet you.” Lizzy turned to a young
nervous-looking boy and asked “what’s your name?”
“Neville Longbottom.” he said quietly.
“Nice to meet you!” said Lizzy. “I’m so happy I’m going to Hogwarts! I was so
surprised I got a letter from Hogwarts, I was super nervous they wouldn’t accept me,
but they did!”
“I was surprised too, and when I got my letter, my parents and I were so surprised!”
exclaimed Hermione.
“I wish my parents were excited for me.” Lizzy replied grumpily.
“My family was excited too, my uncle was so happy he got me my toad, his name is
Trevor.” piped the boy called Neville.
“Who is called Trevor? Your Uncle or the toad? Asked Hermione in a bossy voice.
“My toad is called Trev-Trevor come back!” cried Neville as his toad jumped out of
his hands and away. “Trevvvvoooooorrrrrr!” and Neville ran after his toad.
“We should help him.” Lizzy told Hermione.
“Okay, I’ll follow Neville, you go that way” Hermione said pointing to the right.
With that, Lizzy went right and Hermione left after the blundering Neville.
“Treevoor” called Lizzy “here toad-y, toad-y!” she looked around and said, “Ummm,
have you seen a rather large toad anywhere?” she asked a pure blond boy.
“No, why, did you lose one?” sneered the boy.
“Uhh...no, a friend lost one” said Lizzy uncomfortably.
“Well, I haven’t seen one. Go away.” growled the boy.
“Don’t worry, I am. Good Day - not.” Replied Lizzy.
Lizzy left the blond boy and returned to her original compartment feeling very
ruffled. Neville and Hermione were back too. “Did you find Trevor?”
“Nope” replied Neville glumly.
“Me neither” added Hermione.
“Awww, man” sighed Lizzy “Well, he’ll probably turn up”
“Yeah..” Neville said skeptically. “I’m going to look some more” he announced,
leaving the compartment yet again.
“I should go with him, do you want to come?” asked Hermione.
“Er, no thanks, you can go.” Lizzy replied.
“Okay, suit yourself” and Hermione left the compartment.
Lizzy was walking around the compartment when the snobbish blond boy came in.
“Oh, I thought this was empty. Did you find your frog?” he asked, though not as if he
cared.
“No.” said Lizzy defiantly. “We are still looking for it. And it’s a toad.”
“Hm. No difference”
“Actually, toads and fro-”
“Do you think I care? Well I don’t” he snapped, and then he left the compartment.
‘Yeesh, he is such a meanie. (and that’s me saying it sort of nice)’ she thought. “Oh!
Your back!” Hermione and Neville were back, still unsuccessful with finding poor
Trevor the toad.
“You should change,” said Hermione happily “I’ve just seen the conductor, and
we’re almost there!”
“I’m so excited! And nervous!” squealed Lizzy eagerly.
“Me too, I’m especially nervous.” said Neville anxiously.
“It's okay, I bet you’ll do great!” Lizzy assured him. Lizzy was really nervous though,
so she had a tiny quiver in her voice, and Neville noticed it.
“Umm, you're not really helping my nerves…” he said uneasily.
“Sorry.” replied Lizzy quickly. She was quiet until they got to the castle.
Lizzy was in awe. As she looked around the magnificent Great Hall she marveled at
the ceiling “It’s enchanted to look like the sky outside, I read that in Hogwarts, a
History” said Hermione.
“I know” whispered Lizzy, feeling slightly annoyed.
They stopped and formed a line. A rather stern-looking witch walked to the center
and declared “I am Professor McGonagall, now, when your name is called, you shall
walk up and put this hat...” she indicated a shabby wizards hat “...on your head and
it will announce which house you are in. “Abbot, Hannah!”
A nervous, dirty-blond haired girl stumbled onto the stool. After a couple seconds it
yelled “Hufflepuff!” Lizzy had read about the sorting hat, but she was still very
surprised when spoke.
A girl named “Brown, Lavender” became a Gryffindor, and so did “Finnegan,
Seamus” Lizzy’s friend, “Granger Hermione” became a Gryffindor too. Suddenly, it
was her turn.
“Laurence, Elizabeth” cried Professor McGonagall. Lizzy walked shakily up to the
stool and sat down. McGonagall plopped the hat on her head….and the hat thought.
And thought. Finally, it yelled… “Gryffindor!”
Lizzy got up, feeling extremely relieved. She walked to the Gryffindor table, listening
to all of the welcoming cheers before everyone settled down to wait for “Longbottom,
Neville” to be sorted. He became a “Gryffindor!” and he jogged to the table after he
returned the hat to its place. After some other kids were sorted, the mean blond boy
(“Malfoy, Draco”)she met on the train walked to the stool, hardly sat down, before
the hat screamed “Slytherin!” After Malfoy and a couple other kids, there were two
twin girls and then “Potter, Harry” Everyone was silent. Harry walked up to the hat
and sat down on the stool, and waited. The hat took quite a while to sort Harry but
finally it declared “GRYFFINDOR!”
Everyone at the Gryffindor table cheered. One of the prefects shook Harry’s hand
vigorously. A boy named Ron Weasley became a Gryffindor too. Finally, after a
couple more kids were sorted, the sorting was done, and now, it was time to feast!
Lizzy looked around, all of the platters were empty. She looked around quizzically
and when she looked back, all of the platters were full of magnificent food.
“Oh my goodness!” gasped Lizzy, her favorite food (Shepherd's Pie) was on the
table! Lizzy got a big helping of Shepherd’s Pie, some Bangers and Mash and lots of
her other favorites.
When they were done, the man with half-moon spectacles, Albus Dumbledore,
walked up to the stand and motioned for quiet. He talked about the rules and what
toys and other things were banned, and other stuff, then he dismissed them.
“Come with me, first years!” called an older boy who introduced himself as Percy
Weasley. Lizzy obediently followed him to what was called “Gryffindor Tower” Percy
pointed for the girls to go right, and the boys go left into their dormitories. When Lizzy woke up, it was extremely early, so she decided to read one of her new
school books. As she opened ‘A History of Magic’ she suddenly realized she might be
late for her first day! (She wasn’t really going to be late, class started in an hour and
a half) but she was not going to risk it. She got up, put her uniform on, and rushed
out the door with all of her books. She was running down the hall when suddenly,
SMACK! Lizzy was knocked to the ground after she ran into someone.
“Oof!” she cried. “Excuse me!” Lizzy got up, groaning.
“Are you okay?” asked a boy with vivid red hair.
“Uh, yeah, no bones broken!” she replied, looking up. Lizzy nearly had to double
take. There were two of the same exact boys standing in front of her! Lizzy blinked.
“Err, are you sure?” asked the other boy.
“Yes!” she said a little rudely. “I’m quite fine!” her sighs as she got up betrayed her
though.
“Well, you should look where you're going,” said one of the boys.
“Me! I was carrying a big stack of books! You should have been watching where you
were going, since your hands are empty.”
“I’m not sure if that’s how it works….. But anyway, where are my manners!” said the
other boy somewhat mockingly. “I’m Fred, Fred Weasley, and there’s my brother,
George!”
“Elizabeth Laurence, but my friends call me Lizzy.”
“Hi Lizzy!!” said George.
“I said my friends call me Lizzy. You guys… are not my friends.” replied Lizzy as she
turned to leave.
“Hmph, you’ll regret not being our friend!” called Fred as Lizzy walked away.
“Ha! No I won’t!” laughed Lizzy “Now, I’m gonna be late for class!”
