“Big man in a suit of armour, take that off and what are you?”
He was about to give his usual, automatic response of ‘Genius, Billionaire, Playboy, Philanthropist’ when he suddenly heard a voice in his head that made a chill go down his spine. ‘The Merchant of Death’ the voice hissed in his mind. It was something he had buried deep inside. Something he had hoped would never resurface in this lifetime now that he had given up that old life of his as the Merchant of Death. Something he had been sure wouldn’t resurface unless it was under extreme circumstances. So why now? Why wasn’t he able to push down that part of himself and put on his cocky, arrogant persona? And that was when he heard it. The song. Or what was supposed to be a song. It was broken in a way. Like how sometimes the songs on radios sound. The voices breaking and unclear, yet one could still somehow make out what the song was.
And like he said, he could still make out what the song was. But it sounded wrong to him. Not wrong as in ‘I have never heard this song in my life’ kind of wrong but more like the, ‘This song isn’t supposed to be like this’ kind of wrong. This was because while, yes, the song wasn’t the same one from when he had been a kid but it was still extremely similar to it. There was just something wrong about it. Like someone was meddling with it. Making edits and overall changing it from what it had originally been.

“What are you doing here, Anthony?” a twelve year old Alexandra Stark asked her adoptive brother as she walked up to where he was standing inside the huge room with the arc reactor.
“It’s nothing. And I told you, call me Tony” the seventeen year old boy responded.
“It’s clearly not nothing. Otherwise, why would you be here at two in the morning, Anthony?” she shot back, emphasising the last part just to annoy him.
He let out a sigh, looking slightly annoyed, before asking, “Promise you won’t call me crazy or anything? Or tell anyone about this? Well, except dad. He already knows about it”
She raised an eyebrow, “Depends on what you tell me” she folded her arms across her chest as she stared back at him.
He gave her a look and she rolled her eyes, “Fine brother dearest, I won’t tell anyone about this, and nor will I call your crazy”
“See? That wasn’t so hard” he grinned as she stuck her tongue out at him childishly. Exactly how she should have been, and not like the assassin she had been forced to train to be. He shook his head once, dispelling those thoughts as he turned back to his sister(what?! He had grown fond of this little shit!) and replied to her previous question by saying, “Well…. Have you heard about the tesseract?”
“You been that glowy cube thingy? The one that seemingly killed the Red Skull and went down into the ocean with Captain America and was found by Fathe- by Howard- when he had been looking for the supersoldier?”
He narrowed his eyes at her, “You were about to call him Father.” He noted.
“No I wasn’t!” she denied.
He seemed unimpressed.
“Fine!” she threw up her hands in defeat, “I was about to call him Father! So what?! Just get back to whatever it was that you were about to say!”
He smirked once at her before rolling his eyes at her, “Fine, fine. Stop being so impatient. Well, when dad originally found it, the tesseract was kept in the manor for a small span of time before it seemingly disappeared. During that time I came across the tesseract and got curious as to what it was. I don’t remember how old I was at the time but yeah, it was a while back. A few years maybe? So I got curious and walked towards it to get a closer look. That’s when I first heard it. It was a kind of song. I don’t know what language it was in, but I am sure that it wasn’t in a language known to me. That excludes Italian, English, French, Latin and Ancient Greek-”
“Wait, you know Greek too?”
“Yeah, I do. You too?” and there was a slightly excited look in his eyes. There weren’t that many people who could speak the language, atleast not any that he had known, so he was excited at the prospect of knowing someone who shared this with him. The only person he could talk to in Greek was his mother. Dad could do it too but he wasn’t that fluent in it.
"Yes! It's one of those languages that easily comes to me" she replied.
"Huh, that's cool. Mom taught me Greek since most of her family on her mom's side could speak the language too. Dad taught me Latin."
"Mother knows Greek? That's- surprising. I don't really know that many people who know it"
He gave her a look to which she sighed, "Yes, I have been calling them Mother and Father in my head for a while"
He grinned, "Glad you admit it, baby sis. You're family now. You're stuck with us Whether you like it or not"
She gave him a small, hesitant smiled. It was unlike her but it was genuine which made him smile.
"Anyways, I believe our ADHD has us drifting from the main point of this conversation..."
He nodded, "Yeah, well I used to hear a song coming from the tesseract. It helped me sleep at night especially after nightmares from the times I had gotten kidnapped. Because while dad did his best to keep me safe, a few people did manage to get their hands on me"
"The song... Is it the same one I can faintly hear from the arc reactor?" She asked curiously.
"Wait- you can hear it too?" He seemed surprised on hearing that.
"Yeah. But it's faint. Is it because the arc reactor is based off the tesseract? Because that was what I was told"
"Exactly"
