Hi everyone,

I'm not sure if you saw this in the most recent Goodreads newsletter, but there is a link to a Climate Fiction reading list. The link is also provided below if anyone is interested.

P.L. Tavormina Hiya,

I'm a climate scientist (retired, Caltech) available to skype into classrooms and libraries to talk about my work on fossil fuel disasters (2010 BP spill, 2015 Porter Ranch gas leak, other.)

I also wrote a novel (Aerovoyant) to help foster discussion of climate science. Glad to meet fellow environmentalists!

Cindy Ann (syndianne) This came through my Grist newsletter, winners of their short story contest for 2200: https://grist.org/fix/series/imagine-...

Their summary: "At Fix, we recognize that when writers from different backgrounds envision the future, the tales they tell expand our ability to imagine a better world. That’s why we launched a short story contest, Imagine 2200: Climate Fiction for Future Ancestors. We encouraged entrants to envision the next 180 years of equitable climate progress. The three winning stories and nine finalists create intersectional worlds in which no community is left behind. Whether built on abundance or adaptation, reform or a new understanding of survival, these stories provide flickers of hope, even joy, and serve as a springboard for exploring how fiction can help create a better reality."

An interesting link Cindy Ann-- thanks for sharing. I have been wondering why we don't see more climate fiction. The problem or issue I see is how to write other than dystopian.

P.L. Tavormina Good Morning!

I've got a 99c Kindle countdown today through Friday on all books in the Industrial Age series.

Climate fiction on a second world with metaphysical elements and a dash of sweet romance. Great for reading groups looking to absorb a little earth history in an adventure story. Crazy, I know, but the reviews say it works. :)

Find them here for 99 cents each:

Ray Zimmerman | 706 comments Comments on the list are closed. I noticed that he left out Dune by Frank Herbert. In the novel Dune and the many sequels, the intentional modification of the desert planet Arrakis is a major thread in the story. The importance of the rights of indigenous people is another

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 24 comments I love all the recommendations! Migrations got me started with environmental fiction. I also liked The Overstory, Greenwood, Flight Behavior, The Rain Heron, The Year of the Flood. Newer novels with environmental subplots or themes include North Woods, Cloud Cuckoo Land, Playground, Open Throat, The Mountain in the Sea, Birnam Wood.
