Forest sat down with a thud at one of the tables in the study hall. Yesterday had been a long day--too long, too many happy people, and too many introductions he never wanted. Now, he was feeling particularly irritable. Inside his pocket, he still had the ring from Bella, the stolen wallet from Will, and the stolen bracelet from Abigail. He didn't exactly care as much as he had yesterday, but he couldn't seem to find the heart to sell them. Not yet.
Logan walked in, in a black hoodie, that brought out his eyes, and a black backwards facing baseball cap. He kept his eyes down and slowly made his way over to an empty table. He sat down and placed his books on the table. He just got here, but he was worried he wouldn't be able to make any friends.
Logan jumped up and grabbed his books quickly. "Oh, uh, I'm sorry. I wasn't paying attention. I'll just move." He said softly as he turned to go. Geez, his first day here and he is already screwing things up.
Forest glanced at the kid under his brows. He sucked in a breath. Part of him knew he should tell the kid to stay, but he wasn't in the mood, and just nodded. "You do that," he muttered.
(see the thing is, he's supposed to be alone haha bc his dad died and he has a bad relationship with his mom--see his history. I mean you could make him a sister if she's distanced and follows his history somehow?)
Logan balled his fists and tried to stay calm. He hated bullies. He hated anyone who was mean. "I already am, so leave me alone please." He said softly and sat down at another table.
Logan looked up at him, "I wasn't going to." He said quietly as he looked back down at his books.
He frowned at the boy and put in his headphones, he didn't understand what he did to the kid to make him mad at him.
Forest paused at the headphones. Those would make money. Still, the weighted feeling of the other objects in his pocket tugged on him. Maybe he had to get rid of those, first.Or who knew what he had in his backpack. Forest dropped his pencil, and let it roll towards the kid. He jumped from his seat and made his way towards the pencil, hoping to look in the backpack.
Logan looked up and saw the kid walking towards him. He glanced down and saw the pencil, he quickly reached down and grabbed. Then he held it out to the boy. "Here."
Forest uttered a word he shouldn't be using and snatched the pencil before he could get to the kid's backpack. He grunted. "Thanks," he muttered, and looked at him again. His plan was being foiled and he didn't like it.
Logan quickly put his hands in his lap and stared down at the table. This boy was intense. He gave a slight nod and was hoping he would leave.
Forest stood from his crouched position and huffed. He looked at the boy, whose eyes were an intriguing hazel color. Quickly, he turned and then went back to his table.
Logan let out the breath he was holding and laid his head down on the table. He closed his eyes and imagined running through the trees back home. He missed it. He could feel himself shifting, and soon there was a small brown bear under the table.
Forest turned at a sudden noise, and gasped, standing. His hand went to a knife in his pocket and cursed.
Logan in his bear form came out from under the table and rolled around on the ground playfully.
"Wh--" Forest stopped. He actually liked bears, but had been so startled when this happened he couldn't think. He stared.
Logan rolled around and stood up and all fours. He looked up at the other boy and moved back slowly, he didn't want to get hurt. He didn't know if he could trust this kid.
Forest was still staring open mouthed at the bear-kid. He growled, unsure why so many people had to shift forms here. "What are you doing?" He barked. "This is a study hall." He found himself staring at his eyes again, though--they were a pleasant color and Forest found himself drawn to them.
Logan ran behind a table and made whimpering noises. He wished he could control himself, but he was still too young in bear years to be able to control his shifts. He didn't like how the boy was yelling at him.
Forest groaned, watching the bear run and sort of hide. Animals were different that people, and he'd never hurt them unless he had to. "I won't hurt you," he muttered. "But why did you shift?"
Logan came out slowly and sat down in the middle of the floor. He looked at the boy and tilted his head. He rolled over playfully and gave him a playful bear smile.
Forest knelt; this bear was cute, there was no denying that. But bears would grow into ferocious animals, and he liked that, too. Knowing this one was a human, also, made him a little uncomfortable, but drawn in my the bear-human's eyes, he reached out and touched the bear's head.
Logan hesitated for a second before nudging his hand with his nose. He moved closer and gave him a happy little smile. He was more comfortable in bear form, but he was going to shift back soon so he could keep studying.
Forest patted his head after he nudged his hand. "You're a cute bear, I'll give you that," he muttered.
Logan moved back and went behind a table again as he shifted back. He has the rare ability to shift with clothes on and still be able to have them on when he shifted back. He stood up and sat down at his table not looking up at Forest.
Forest watched in fascination, never having seen something like it before. He looked at the kid. "What's your name? Why do you do that?"
Logan blushed and glanced up slightly, "Logan, and I don't know why I shift. I just do, I mean, I know my father did it once for a short period of time because of some stuff, but I can't control it yet." He said getting quietly the more he realised he was talking.
"Um, what's your name?" He asked softly. He was a little embarrassed that he shifted in front of a stranger.
"Forest. Its my first year in this place. You?" He wanted to kick himself. He'd vowed this morning he'd stop being friendly.
He looked at Forest with kind eyes and gave a small smile. "I like that name. It's different. And this is my first day here." He said quietly.
Forest's breath caught for a second as he stared at those eyes again, and then he jerked back and shook his head. He didn't know why he found his eyes so...trusting? And pretty. "Oh. Uh--uh, thanks. I was named because my eyes are dark green." Stupid, he chastised himself. "Oh, I see." He frowned. "Starting mid-year?"
Logan nodded his head messing with his studded earrings. "Mhm, my dad didn't want to let me come. But he realised I needed this. So he agreed. And um, i-if you don't mind me saying, you're eyes are really beautiful." He said with a blush.
"Ah." Forest's eyes drifted to his earrings. He liked them. "Well, at least he agreed. That sounds like it must be nice." The words came out a bit bitter, but he froze at Logan's last words. "What? Oh, I--they're just---thanks," he muttered. "Just green. Yours are also nice."He clenched his fist and dug one hand into his pocket, feeling the metal of the ring and bracelet, reminding himself he was here to keep his mother happy and take what he needed. "I mean, they're just eyes."
Logan noticed how he changed and talked harshly and he winced. Violence was something he was really good with. "Sure, I guess it's nice, I just wish he wasn't alone at home now." He blushed as Forest talked about his eyes, "Thanks? I got them from my mother. She had the most golden and bright eyes out of everyone." He said softly as his gaze became clouded and far away.
He frowned and his eyes went dark. "Yes, she is." He looked down at his books again thought about what happened with his baby sister and his mother right after that. Their lives were taken without a single thought.
Forest recognized the dark eyes; he'd seen them in himself, swirling with rage. "So is my father," he stated. "I'm sorry for your loss."
Logan looked at him, "Don't say that. I hate those words. They mean nothing. They are just words people through around." He said darkly. "Sorry about your father being gone, life takes away the innocent ones." He mumbled.
Forest shook his head; he felt some sort of connection with Logan. "No, I think they mean nothing when the people who say them aren't serious. In my experience that's everyone, but I mean it because I know how you feel. And you just said it yourself." He sat down. "I agree, it does. Life's horrible to some and kind to others, and it's not right."
Logan looked away, "Yeah, I guess life just chooses who gets to be on top, and who doesn't." He said as he messed with his earrings again and stared at the wall.
"And don't you think that's wrong?" He pressed, though he was wary to press too far. Last night, he and Amy had gotten into a horrid argument about this, and it had made him fly into a rage all over again.
Logan nodded as his eyes went back to their normal color. "Yes, it is wrong. I just don't know how someone could change that. It's just the way life works." He said thinking about his innocent baby sister, who was only two, that was taken away from them. And then his unborn sibling that died with his mother.
