I’ll rlly appreciate it if u read it and give me some feedback, maybe I’ll post a chapter per week, idk, bc ik how everyone is reading a lot of books and some don’t have time/or are not interested in reading just some story that u can’t guarantee you’ll like it. So yeah, I’ll be rlly happy if you’re honest(I don’t mind taking criticism, it’ll only help me) and give me some advice. Now I’m beginning to edit the book so idk when I’ll be able to post it but I hope it’s soon(and it’s a rlly short book so it won’t take much time)

Chapter 1As I made my way through the crowd and the house unfolded before my eyes, engulfed in flames rising higher and higher, my first thought was:
"It was not me."
Not this time.
From the looks people gave me, I guessed they were thinking the exact opposite, which didn't surprise me, but it still made me angry. Every time an accident happens, everyone is convinced that I am to blame. Not that they have no reason to think so, I admit, I have a terrible tendency to get involved in unpleasant situations, but I'm not always the one guilty…
Well, almost…
Anyway, this time it wasn't me. And I was going to prove it. I looked at the people's expressions, and only now did I realize how hard it would be for me. Everyone stared at me, some with anger, others with disgust, or even with disappointment, like they were expecting with my 16th birthday a few days ago to become at least a little wiser. If I wanted to convince them, I had to find evidence, otherwise it would not have occurred to anyone to believe that anyone other than me was capable of such a thing. Not that I ever lied to them, on the contrary, one of the things I learned from my father while he was alive is that sincerity is one of the most important things we must observe.
- Adalin!
I was startled and turned to see Layla trying to make her way through the crowd. When she finally got to me, she was already sweating and her blonde curls were tangled in a ball, something that rarely happens.
"I tried to get here as fast as I could when I heard the news." she walked around the view and her blue eyes widened as they embraced the huge flames. “What about old Douglas?”
"He hasn't been found yet." I replied.
"So it's possible he's inside?"
“Highly possible.”
Laila sighed, then turned to me with her hands on her hips. She narrowed his eyes at me from head to toe.
“What happened?”
I took a deep breath, ready to explain that this time I really had nothing to do with it, but she overtook me before I could even open my mouth.
"That exceeds everything! I understand that most of the time you do it by accident, but that's too much! Everyone will be convinced that it was done on purpose! Are you aware that at the moment one of the most revered nobles in the city may be dead, and that's because of you! It's about human life! I'm sorry, Adalin, but this time you won't get away with a simple punishment. Once the people of the royal palace learn of this, they will take action and make sure to punish the one guilty. Who knows, they may send you to prison, and what do you think I will do without you!?”
Great, I thought, now even my best friend is against me.
“And what will you do if I tell you it's not me?”
“If only it were so! I would be happy with all my heart!”
“If so, you can start jumping and hugging me.”
Laila looked at me confused and I spread my arms helplessly.
“Does it seem so impossible to be someone else?!”
She rallied.
“Are you serious trying to tell me that it's not your fault, but someone else's?”
"You got it faster than I expected." I muttered.
“But if what you say is true, who else could it be?”
“I am wondering the same thing.”
As far as I believe, it is most likely that the incident happened on purpose. However, it is not so easy to burn an entire house by accident, but on the other hand, this should not excluded, as Lord Douglas is quite old and a little out of sight. Maybe he set his house on fire by himself. And who else would burn down his house if he was convinced he was going to get in a lot of trouble, because old Douglas, as most people called him, was a great and faithful man in his youth, and even the king still asks him for advice. The only other possibility, other than that he set it on fire himself, is that it was caused by an enemy.
Recently, rumors have been circulating that the Lyrians, the neighboring kingdom, are attacking various parts of Velaria, but the king assures us that everything is fine and keeps everything under control. The people, of course, believe him and have not thought that their attacks could get here and provoke war.
Soon the flames were extinguished and people began searching the house. It took a long time for them to reappear to let us know that they had not found a single trace of the old man. This convinced me that it was not possible that he had set the house on fire, because either they would have found him inside, or if he had managed to get out in time, he would have been somewhere among us. One of the men called:
“First of all, I think we need to find out who’s the guilty one, and then maybe we can explain where Lord Douglas went missing.” He stared at me at the last word, and I stuck out my chin and stared back at him. Most eyes turned to me again.
"Do you have anything to say on the matter, young lady?"
“Yes.” I replied and walked through the crowd forward until I was close to the man, in front of everyone. Laila watched me anxiously.
“I came to the conclusion that the Lyrians burned down the house and kidnapped Lord Douglas.”
People looked at each other, then burst out laughing uncontrollably. I wasn't surprised by their reaction, but I was still angry. I waited for them to calm down a bit and then spoke again.
“You do not believe me? Okay then, I'll search around until I find proof, and then we'll see if you still find it so funny.
"Good way to shift the blame to someone else!" someone shouted.
"It's not so easy to deceive us, you liar!" - Some other brat decided to open his mouth.
"Just wait until His Majesty comes, you'll get what you deserve."
"I suggest we do the job ourselves right now, as our prince will rather kiss her hand than punish her!”
I turned angrily to the voice, ready to punch him as soon as I recognize it, but at the same moment I heard a very familiar voice:
"Let her find the evidence she mentioned, she may be right this time!"
All eyes went on my mother, who was making her way to reach me.
"She's just trying to fool us! Looks like she’s too afraid of the consequences!” - Someone from the crowd called again.
"Me? Afraid?" I shouted, but my mother put her hand on my shoulder and spoke again.
“My daughter is honest and I believe her. Give her a chance to prove it! Or are you so afraid of the Lyrians that you don't even want to turn on that possibility?”
An angry whisper spread through the crowd until finally the man on my other side ended the argument.
"Then let her prove her innocence if she's so convinced." But we want real evidence, not some shifted petal or step on the ground.
Also the translation is rlly bad at times, I tried to edit it but there’re still some strange words and stuff

my only issue would be the length, because in a book, a chapter can't last only one page. otherwise, a little editing, and its perfect!

I sighed with relief and my mother squeezed my shoulder. I looked at her gratefully and headed for the back of the house. Laila followed me, and as we left the eyes of the others, she began to scold me. "Adalin, what’re you even thinking?" Do you seriously believe that you will find something? You are not even sure that the Lyrians are to blame! But you don't seriously believe they are, do you?”
“I believe it of course. Well, I'm not entirely convinced, but that seems like the most acceptable option.”
“Are you sure? Is it possible that they are attacking us?” Laila asked in a shaky voice.
I turned to look at her and said,
"Look, I didn't say they were attacking us, it's just one of the possibilities they set the house on fire. Even so, that doesn’t mean they’re attacking us. But anyway, there's no point in just guessing, and since I don't have much time, I'll be grateful if you can help me find something to get me out of this stupid situation.”
Laila nodded and looked around. It wasn't long before I heard her ask:
“And what does this ‘evidence’ look like?”
I grunted and replied:
“Just look around and if you find anything out of the ordinary, tell me.”
I crossed the yard and went into the forest next to it. It was a warm morning and the sun was shining through the trees’ leaves. The wind blew my long red hair, and the leaves rustled as I stepped on the soft ground. I wondered how quiet it was here compared to the noisy crowd in front of the house. I wish I didn't have to go back there, just run into the woods, away from people and accusations.
It was impossible, of course, but at least I could relieve my return if I could just find something to convince them. In fact, I didn't know exactly what I was looking for, I just knew I urgently needed a clue. I looked at every inch of the ground, searching for a broken branch in the trees or something but the longer I went, the more I was becoming convinced that no one had passed through here. My thoughts began to race. What if I came back empty-handed? What would they do to me? Would they really throw me in jail, like Laila said? Or something worse? True, the prince is not so indifferent of me, but it would not matter much to the king if I really did such a thing.
In fact, it was not this that terrified me, but rather that I would be treated unfairly, even though I was innocent and I would not be able to do anything about it. On top of that, I was now thought of as a liar.
Suddenly, Laila's voice tore me from my thoughts. She called my name and I ran in the direction of her voice. Not long after, I found myself in front of the house again, where Laila was waiting for me, and led me to the other side of the house.
“I think I found something extremely unusual, but I didn't look at it well, I was too excited that I found something and I hurried to tell you.”
“You did well.”
We went around and found ourselves on the left side of the house. The voices of the people who kept arguing were better heard here. Only one corner separated us from them. Laila pointed to something colorful, and as I approached, I realized it was a flag. A small flag tucked against the wall and fluttering in the wind. I grabbed it and looked at it from the front. It was blue, and in the middle was a golden image of an upright lion with a spear, as if ready to throw it. The sign of Lyria.
