The movie Those Who Wish Me Dead is coming to the big screen and HBO Max on May 14. It’s based on the book, Those Who Wish Me Dead by Michael Koryta and stars Angelina Jolie.


I absolutely loved this book! It was in my top ten of audiobook favorites for that year. I just got a newsletter from the author who stated he loved the adaptation.

I think it’s worth it to read the book first.

FYI, Robert Petkoff is the narrator. He narrates every book by the author.

I always read the book before I see the movie.

Same for me. If I see the movie, that ends it for the book.

I didn't even know this was based on a book. I'll have to see if I can find it.

I'm going to check my library and see if they have this one. It sounds good.

I'm the opposite. If I read the book first, I'm usually disappointed in the movie or TV show. If I see a movie then go back and read the book, it enhances the show.

If I see the movie first, I keep,looking for that version in the book and get stuck. Never works.

I'm always disappointed if I watch the movie first.

For me if I read the book first I end up hating the movie. If I see the movie first it add to the book and then I hate the movie.

LOL I'm with you, but I don't always hate the movie. If I see the movie first, I can look at them separately. For some reason, if I love the book, and the movie doesn't turn out like I want it, I can't separate the two. Virgin River is a prime example. I'm so angry that they changed Jack's core, I don't care about him like I did the in the books.

I put this one on my watch list. I may even be able to talk hubby into watching with me.

I just watched this movie and it is absolutely fantastic. If it were a book it would be 5-Stars. Forget the book - watch the movie.

After being disappointed by seeing movies of books I had loved, I learned that if I see the movie first I can enjoy it. Then, when I read the book it is even better because it can add so much depth and even scenes that the movie can't include. There are are a few exceptions but that is my plan and it usually works well.

Just finished the book and I loved it. IMO, the movie will have a hard time living up to its source material.

From what I can tell, the movie is totally different from the book. In the movie the survival camp couple are completely different.

I hate when they drastically change the characters or plot when making a book into a movie or tv show. I can understand some scenes having to be revised because of cost but sometimes they go overboard. I've watched some movies based on books that I liked that weren't even recognizable when they were done.

I think this one is going to be that way for you. If it makes you feel better, I really liked the movie, but I don't think it is anything at all like the book.

I just started the book.

I don't have HBO Max and the movie doesn't seem to be playing in any of the local theaters. Maybe by the time I see it, I'll forget the book.
