I'm so excited to see how the voting differs when you have to pick only one! I promise to share a ton of stats when the whole thing is over about all the stages of voting. If you have questions, feel free to ask them!

How in the world are we supposed to choose?! They’re all so different and so good. I want at least 8 of them to win...I may have to just throw darts.

Lauren Oertel | 1403 comments Such a tough choice! I think I can narrow it down to GWO and There There, but will need to think about it for another day or two.

Kip Kyburz (kybrz) | 555 comments Just follow you heart... and techno.

message 6: by Kip (new)

Kip Kyburz (kybrz) | 555 comments But also I totally agree, there are 11 books that I hold up as some of my favorites of all-time in this.

Ellen H | 987 comments Oh, Maggie -- so happy to "see" you!

Lark Benobi (larkbenobi) | 210 comments never have I been so sure of my zombie vote. but I'm too shy now to say what it was, because, polarizing.

Elizabeth Arnold | 1314 comments lark wrote: "never have I been so sure of my zombie vote. but I'm too shy now to say what it was, because, polarizing."

How could it be polarizing? I think most of us would be happy to see any of these given a second chance. (I mean, I'd stick out my tongue if I saw Stephen Florida, which I'm guessing has a good zombie probability. But I respect people's opinion. Even if it's wrong, ha.)

message 10: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Arnold | 1314 comments I'm still debating between GWO, Milkman and Exit West, because they're the three that are still resonating inside me. (Although Idaho is on the fringes of my thoughts as well...I loved it while reading, but it was so complex that I don't remember enough about it.)

message 11: by Lark (new)

Lark Benobi (larkbenobi) | 210 comments ok, you're right, Elizabeth, I will come out from under my rock and say the obvious best-of-the-best book on this list is MILKMAN.

I wouldn't disagree! Glad you came out from your rock. I love seeing people's choices. :)

Kip Kyburz (kybrz) | 555 comments Milkman and Tsar were probably my top 2 but there are no books on this list that I actually dislike, just a few I haven’t read yet.

Nadine in California (nadinekc) | 763 comments Another big Milkman fan here! The audio was fantastic.

message 15: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Sund | 27 comments I love (hate? feel passionately about?) Stephen Florida, but I agree that Milkman is certainly the best-of-the-best book on the list.

message 16: by Kim (new)

Kim B | 61 comments I had a hard time choosing between Stephen Florida, Milkman, and Tsar...but I had to go with Stephen.

message 17: by Bretnie (new)

Bretnie | 717 comments I voted for Homegoing, mostly because it continues to stick with me long after reading it. My mother in law read it recently and we had a weird discussion where she didn't come away with most of the takeaways about race that I did.

It was frustrating and got me all riled up. I think I love it so much that when others don't see the beauty and powerfulness I don't know what to do with myself. Gyasi created that feeling in me, and that's kind of amazing.

message 18: by Lark (new)

Lark Benobi (larkbenobi) | 210 comments I definitely need to read Stephen Florida again. It kind of slid past my eyeballs the first time.

message 19: by Kyle (new)

Kyle | 914 comments Skippy voter over here. Maybe I'll need to revisit it soon, though.

Me too :)

message 21: by Peggy (new)

Peggy | 256 comments The Animators got my vote; it's the book I most often think about years later. Version Control almost edged it out, though. There's no wrong choice here, that's for sure.

Care (bkclubcare) | 207 comments lark wrote: "I definitely need to read Stephen Florida again. It kind of slid past my eyeballs the first time."

If you would like my copy, it's only been read twice (by me and a friend of my mom's who loved it! LOL)

Seriously, if you want my copy, it will give me joy to send. Just em me at bkclubcare at gmail.

message 23: by Care (new)

Care (bkclubcare) | 207 comments I voted! I never can decide during regular TOB because I haven't ever read enough to feel like I can honestly contribute. and I ALWAYS miss the deadline...

Thanks Care! It's waiting for me on the holds shelf at my library, so I'm ok!

My library is pretty good about ordering books from small- and mid-sized presses and can be counted on to order 100% of the Coffee House books.

Wonderful! Libraries are my favorite.

I've got Everyone knows your mother is a witch on hold but I've been 3rd in line for 6 weeks now. Come on, people! Read the book and get it back already!! LOL

message 26: by Maggie (new)

Maggie (magwi) | 284 comments With 67 votes so far, there are three clear leaders (each with >10% of the vote!) and every book has gotten at least one vote!

You have a few more days to get those votes in! Get excited!

message 27: by Gail (new)

Gail | 46 comments Milkman gets my vote!

message 28: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy | 287 comments I’m about halfway done with Tsar and loving it - will be my 10th book from the list. I was hoping to get through one more before voting, but don’t want to miss my chance!

Heather (hlynhart) | 413 comments Peggy wrote: "The Animators got my vote; it's the book I most often think about years later. Version Control almost edged it out, though. There's no wrong choice here, that's for sure."

Those were the two I went back and forth on, as well.

message 30: by Amy (new)

Amy (asawatzky) | 1743 comments I struggled between Milkman and two others (which will remain unnamed because at least one was in my judge's matchup)

message 31: by Mindy (new)

Mindy Jones (mindyrecycles) | 3 comments Milkman all the way for me, but I agree there's not a dud in this bunch. Just finished and loved Tsar and I only have Tale for the Time Being yet to read.

message 32: by Maggie (new)

Maggie (magwi) | 284 comments LAST CHANCE! I will close voting tonight at midnight. Your vote matters!!!
