The Rory Gilmore Book Club discussion

I really am confused as to why Rory recommends this to Jess. I could not stand it when I read it, I'm really wondering what this means character-wise. Rory's privilege and Jess's lack thereof really do separate them, especially towards the end of the series...honestly it was at this point that I was a bit taken aback. The politics of The Fountainhead are so Rory .... but not Jess. Any other thoughts? Am I reading this moment wrong?

i have not yet read the fountainhead, although i have wanted to since i stumbled across the movie. i definitely don’t think that this seems like the kind of book rory would be interested in, so maybe the writers of the show just didn’t really know what it was about? i hope to have more insight after reading the book.
