Everyone reads at their own pace during a Buddy Read. Because participants can be at different parts of the book at different times, it is extremely important to mark spoilers so that the book is not ruined for someone who is not as far along as others!!!

Mark spoilers by placing {spoiler} before the text and {/spoiler} after the text but use the < and > instead of the { and }.

Happy Buddy Reading!

Sure, looking forward to it :)

☼ Cristina ☼ | 60 comments Hi I just finished!! I am really unsure how I feel. I gave it 3 stars because as much as I liked the story I felt it was too short and jumped around too much for me to really connect with some of the characters especially Talia and her siblings. Also the ending sort of felt a little rushed and too good to be true?

I would be very interesting to hear your thoughts!

Ushashi (ushashib) | 428 comments Hi, I understand your feelings on this. I liked the book, but I also felt that it could have been a little longer and deeper. But I tend to like short books, so it works as a plus for me. I have never read anything before on the lives of undocumented people in the US and it was a fascinating side to see. I liked the portrayal of the young couple wanting to leave their country in search of a better future, and then coming to terms with the fact of never seeing that dream realized, also Elena's dilemma of staying in US and longing for her homeland. That felt very realistic to me.

But I wholeheartedly agree with you about the ending. It was almost like a fairy-tale wish fulfillment.
