Hello everyone! So glad to have you all here in this "It" book club! I'm very excited to get started. I have some Pre-Read questions for you all. We start reading next week! I will post more info on which chapters in another topic section.

1. Who's your favorite Loser if you have one and why? What makes them your favorite?
2. For first time readers, what attracted you to reading "It?"
3. For multiple time readers, what keeps bringing you back?! Without spoilers, what makes this book so re-readable for you?
4. Are you excited for this or what?!

1. Since I've only watched the movies, I don't want to place a definitive answer on who my favorite Loser is yet. However, I relate a lot to Ben. I was overweight when I grew up and bullied for it. I also loved history and would often find myself in the school library after classes just browsing around like him. I was (and still am) a bit of a romantic. His poem to Beverly in the movie was something I would do, even though I never had the guts to do it lol! So I really like Ben, he's my favorite so far.

2. The movies attracted me to reading "It," as well as Stephen King himself. I've read only two other King books, The Shining and The Outsider, both of which I adored. I am expecting the same from It!

4. I'm HYPED to be doing this book club with you all!

Awesome! Mike, right now, is second on my list. He's similar to Ben because they seem to me like they are both the smartest out of the group! It's so cool to hear your perspective as a returning reader. The fact that you catch something new every time you read the book tells me that it's a very good book. I do expect that from a 1,000 page book!

And you're too kind. Thank you for co-moderating this club with me :) so excited!

Sarah | 3 comments Okay, so I'm going to hold off on answering Q1 because I have only just started reading the book this morning and am still meeting the characters

regarding 2) it's a bit of a story. I'd always been intrigued by horror but but always backed out of actually watching it last minute ... until the Summer of 2019 and IT was actually one of the 1st (possibly The 1st) horror movie I actually watched with the purpose of watching a horror (if that makes sense). Then, I started an entire catch-up journey but IT always struck a pecular cord with me for some reason. So, then I decided to read it last Summer when I was reading the Stand but then the academic year started and I got caught up in those books ... so yeah, here we are. I also read some other books by King in that period, in order (don't ask why I remember it or why I'm mentioning it now because I don't actually know myself) : Bazaar of Bad Dreams The Shining, Doctor Sleep, Revival and Misery

4) Hell Yeah! I've been waiting almost a year to finally read this book!!

Cora Doney | 2 comments Hi everyone, I'm Cora and I'm so excited to meet you all!
1. My favorite loser is Ben. I can really relate to him. I spend most of my time reading or hanging out in the library, and I'm very romantic just like him. When I was younger I was bullied a lot and had a love triangle like Beverly, Ben, and Bill had, and of course I was the one who ended up by myself. Ben is such a sweet kid and he's so lovable. He's definitely my favorite.
2. I was attracted to IT because I have quite an obsession with Stephen King. When I watched the movies I fell in love and wanted more. I bought the book, but I never had the time to read it. I'm hoping this group will get me on a good schedule to keep me motivated and reading.
4. I'm so excited! I can't wait to meet some new people and read a good book!

Glad you're here!! Nice to see another Ben fan here 😎 I'm in the same boat as you! I loved the movies and wanted more, so I'm very excited for this book! This is going to be so fun! Can't wait to hear your thoughts and insights 😊

Logan You should definitely read The Stand. I just finished it and it’s my favorite of Stephen King’s books. It’s very long, but ever-rewarding!

Hey all.

1. My favourite Loser is Mike, because he's incredibly well fleshed out through the interlude chapters. I also love his relationship with his father. Child Ben is a close second, because I do relate to him a lot.
2. Not a first time reader, but I will explain how I initially found the story. I saw the miniseries when I was in high school and thought it was pretty bad, but I liked the concept so I checked out the book, which I thought was amazing. This was around when the recent movies were first announced, in 2009. Since I didn't care for the miniseries, I was pretty excited about that. At the time I had no idea I would have to wait almost a decade to get a new adaptation!
3. It's the richness of the book for me, I think. The characters are so well drawn and the world feels so real. It's a very ambitious book. Even if it doesn't completely pull off everything it sets out to do, I think if you removed any one component of the story, I would find it less interesting. This will be my sixth reread.
4. Yes! I'm really looking forward to discussing the book. I have a lot of thoughts about it after reading it so many times. I'm very interested in seeing what first time readers think of it, especially those who are coming to the book after seeing the movies.

Glad to have you here, Mitchell! Mike is awesome, he would be my second favorite. And totally feel you with Ben, I can relate to him a lot when I was growing up. I've actually been wanting to check out the mini series! But now I'm thinking maybe not since so many people say it's bad. I'm glad it did not deter you from the book!

I agree, I started reading early, but I can tell this is a very ambitious book. It's awesome! So glad to have you here and I'm excited to get reading with everyone starting tomorrow!

I had the same reaction to Misery, it's the first book I have ever needed to put down for a while because I needed a break from it so I was really impressed by that (the only other one was Alexievich's Chernobyl Prayer but for entirely different reasons) and I'm with ya on Dr Sleep as well. It might be my favourite King book so far. Carrie is also on my list but I have yet to find a nice copy to buy (or an english copy in the library). I read the Stand and IT as an ebook though, because at some point a book can become too big to read comfortably. although I do have a beautiful copy of IT in my own language, which I'll probably never read

message 15: by Heather (new)

Heather | 4 comments 1.) It's so hard to pick a favorite Loser for me, but that's part of why I love the book so much. I (and I'm sure so many of us) mostly just wanted to be in the Loser's club, because it seemed so much better to be with a group of best friends that were united against the school bullies and Pennywise than to be dealing with real life bullying.
I can definitely identify with each on of The Loser's in one way or another, but Richie "Trashmouth" Tozier is my spirit animal. Like Richie, I was often the joker of my group and family, but that didn't always make me enjoyable to be around. Teachers or friend's parents weren't always as appreciative of my humor as I would have liked. I also think deep down Richie is sweet and emotional. I think humor is his preferred way of dealing with emotions and though its often deemed as inappropriate, he's so damned funny.

3.) I honestly just love S.K. and the whole S.K. universe. I got started a little late in life with reading horror but once I read my first King book (The Shining) I was hooked. I love the way so many of the books have different easter eggs of other books, and "It" is no different. I've read the book a few times and listed to the audiobook which is quite good, as well as the movies- each time getting something new out of it. For anyone who's into the S.K. universe, re-reading "IT, The Stand, The Shining, etc, is a must to catch all the different connections.

4.) You guys, I'm SO stoked to be in this book club with ya'll! I'm more excited than Pennywise on the night before a carnival in Derry!

Welcome, Heather! LOL I love how you say Richie is your spirit animal, that's an awesome way to put it!! He is very funny, that's what I loved about in the movies, and that's what I am loving about him so far in the book!

So glad you're with us!!👌😁
