Great Honey- it will be fun to have you in this discussion. Lin and I most often very interesting back and forth discussion, and I am so glad you will join us. I am going to post a few introductory questions in the thread so we can share a bit about our own backgrounds in hiking.
The Library of America has released Rachel Carson's three books about the sea in one volume. They are also doing an online celebration next Thursday. https://www.loa.org/books/699-the-sea...
Ray— thanks for letting us know about the Library of America publication of Rachel Carson’s works! Fantastic. I am a super supporter and fan of Library of America- their work helps important American writing stay in print!
P.s. in December I will be creating a new thread for this group that will combine— daily observations of nature, general chat, and also announcements like this that everyone will see. Stay tuned!

I know some of us had planned to read Nan Shepherd's The Living Mountain in December, so just a little segue, the longlist for the Nan Shepherd Prize has been announced: https://nanshepherdprize.com/2021/lon...Some interesting sounding stuff on the list.
Honey-- this is such an interesting array of books! I selected Common Place and My Family and Other Folklore as interesting titles. But I could not find either title here on GR. ?
Dec 1- 20 - 2021 a group of us here will read Nan Shepherd's The Living Mountain
It looks like we will have a lively and in depth discussion. I'm surprised by how many have joined this buddy read-- ( Side Read)... find the Side Read folder and look for the thread if you would like to join us.

Now Comes Good Sailing: Writers Reflect on Henry David Thoreau
Considering listening to these essays in January, and if anyone would like to join me, I will post it as a January Side Read.

A group of us plan to read and discuss Writing Wild: Women Poets, Ramblers, and Mavericks Who Shape How We See the Natural World Feb 7 - March 7, 2022 as a Side Read. This book looks like an excellent follow up to Nan Shepherd's _ In the Living Mountain_ and also _Windswept_ , which we read last year. Female Hikers and writing. All are welcome to join this read. Please let us know, if you planning on it.
For those who read Windswept: Walking the Paths of Trailblazing Women by Annabel Abbs in a side read, she has a newer book out under the name Annabel Streets 52 Ways to Walk: The Surprising Science of Walking for Wellness and Joy, One Week at a Time. I have a copy, and it looks like it has 52 light and joyful ways to enjoy walking. I'll be reading it soon. Just an FYI, not a side read at this time.
Hi Julie-- how did you realize it is the same author?
Looks joy-filled and light perfect for now.
