Hello fans of graphic novels. My name is Darlene and I am the CEO of ReGenesis Media - a publishing company I created to support the work of my 2 young adult sons who were homeschooled their whole lives and have worked many years to establish Summer Time Studios productions. When they were young they both dreamed of writing and illustrating stories for young people and children and now they are both authors and illustrators of literary graphic novels - the first title "Long Live The Emperor" Book 1 of the Tales of Orlen Series was published August 2020 and is available as an ebook download.
I wanted to start a discussion about 'graphic novels' in relation to quality of illustrations and content. I personally never really enjoyed 'comic books' as a child or young adult simply because the story content and illustrations never appealed to my young sense of aesthetics or intellectual needs. I was surprised when my son's chose this medium to produce their stories in because I assumed the industry standard would not be of high enough quality for their productions.
Jade and Jaron have shared with me the history of Marvel and Stan Lee's life's contributions to this medium and I became intrigued with the 'comic book' history. It was then that I became aware of the struggles this genre of literature has experienced over the decades.
They both feel another surge in quality similar to the one that Stan Lee infused into the 'Fantastic Four" is needed to revive and transform 'comic books' into 'literary graphic novels' that allow new heart and soul into the stories. I am wanting to start this discussion to get more feedback from American graphic novel readers about their own opinions and experiences related this subject.
Part of Summer Time Studios mission is to evolve this industry with high quality stories and illustrations that can set a new standard. My question as a publisher is there an audience in America that would appreciate such an upgrade?
