i think Rob et al are gonna do Traitors Son, right?"
Feel free to lurk as much as you want. I keep adding more and more to this list its getting ridiculous lol.
You mean Traitor's Blade? If so I don't know tbh. I'm not keeping to close an eye on the buddy read invite thread at the moment since I haven't wanted to tempt myself into planning something too far ahead of time and I think Jan-March are full enough since I want to leave room for mood reads but if they are I'll definitely keep my eye out for a thread... depends if I get in the mood to just binge them since they are rereads of favourites.
Have you read the Greatcoats series before Zaara? If not I highly suggest you do, one of my favourite series ever...Its sooo dark and gruesome in places but the characters and the banter in this series is just *chefs kiss*. Just talking about it makes me want to read them again right now 😅
Yeaoopp sorry I did mean Traitor’s Blade. Traitor’s Son is a whole other series, isn’t it? Oh…I didn’t know Greatcoats was a reread for you. I read the first book way back in 2018 when a large group read it but then didn’t continue with the second book onward…and I have been doing this consistently… Re "ridiculous"… do you know? I watched this kid freak out on YT that she had 40 open series and I was feeling for her and thinking I couldn’t be that bad…sure…*drumrolls* I made the list…I have 36 open serie and these are not counting the three stalled ones (Kingkiller, Genman Bs, ASOIAF) or ones I’m caught up on. For most of these I’ve only read the first book. A bare handful I’m one or two books away from the end. Ugg…so my goal for 2022 is simple: get that number down to 25 or lower. Yes, let’s get a thread for Sarum and Goblin Emperor. I will ask Niki to add them to the bookshelf. I think I saw somewhere that this is the new way.
I don’t know when the 2022 Greatcoats read has been scheduled. I’ll check back on BR Invites and ask Rob agn. Absolutely…Book 1 was wonderful (the banter! the swashbuckling! the swagger!) and I am excited about it. You praising it that highly does it no harm, either. Yep I'll let you know once I hear back.
I hope you enjoy your holidays. Where are you going, if you don’t mind sharing? Was it you or Siobhan, that I remember (I am sorry I did not check you guys on Insta regularly…but I do see the walls once in a few months and by then there are lots to see) was it you that posted one of the locations where P&P was shot, Hailee? Last year I had this sudden hankering for Lisbon and watched a lot walking tours and partly paid up somewhere thinking I will have gone by now if things opened up but now there’s all this and Mum has been a bit unwell too recently…so that plam remained on hold.
What’s going on your Xmas wishlist? I’m getting the Six of Crows collector’s editions and some of the books on Gavin’s and your middlegrade list. I'll update.
Also after bingeing a lot of Stephen King fandom videos I wanted to see how he will write a love story and couldn’t decide between Lisey’s Story and Bag of Bones, so I got both pretty cheap used. And they were almost new and floppy paperbacks too!!
Although that hadn't occurred to me yes there is a series called the Traitor's Son Cycle. Yet another series I own the first couple of books in but have yet to start.I've only just realised this when you gave the date you read Traitor's blade and I thought huh that's the year I read it and I swear I buddy read it with this group as well. I went to check the old thread from October 2018 and there we both are reading it in the same buddy read 🤣. And yes book 1 was sooo good. I can't remember how dark it was but if it wasn't book 2 onwards makes up for it!
Nowhere particularly exciting for the holidays. It'll just be visiting my dads side of the family down near Torquay for 4 or 5 days. It probably was me. I think I posted a few pictures the last time I went Although that was Christmas 2016 lol. I actually went to both Lyme Park (Pemberley in the 1995 TV adaptation) and Chatsworth (Pemberley in the Keira Knightly movie)I'm sorry to hear that your mum isn't feeling her best I'll keep my fingers crossed that you. If you need someone to talk to just give me a shout.
Its shame your Lisbon plans got interfered with. I had the same trouble. A friend and I decided to arrange our own reading retreat by booking a scenic cottage and we were due to go at the end of April 2020 and were all paid up but of course Covid hit and that was the end of that. We have recently rebooked the holiday so the plan is to go end of April/Beginning of May 2022 if nothing interferes this time 🤞
I sympathise on the unfinished series problem. I think the reason mine is currently not too bad is because my memory is sooo bad so many of the "open" series I have are ones I am planning on just restarting (Wheel of Time, Malazan, Ryria Revelations, Frostheart, Faithful and the Fallen, The Saxon Stories and ASoI&F to name just a few 😅) I think I saw you comment somewhere that you are hoping to commit to sticking with reading books in series close together rather than reading lots of the first books instead and I'm definitely going to try and do that as well. As for my Christmas wishlist there won't be too much since I've treated myself to quite a few books recently. But I'm definitely getting Keeper of the Lost Cities Series Volume 1 - 8 Collection Books Box Set by Shannon Messenger since a booktuber I follow is planning a readalong for this in 2022 and Darcy's Passions: Pride and Prejudice Retold Through His Eyes which is one of my favourite P&P variations (P&P from Darcy's POV and then a bit of a sequel) and I've been craving a reread recently (and my original copy had ink spilled on it). I'll probably get some more contemporary rom-coms as well since unusually for me I've been craving them recently. I already have a few and I'm probably going to binge them in December.
I must congratulate you on your taste in buying the collectors edition of Six of Crows that is a beautiful book. One of the books that makes me sad that I dislike hardbacks so much. I actually nearly reread them AGAIN this year but ran out of time. This duology and the Simon Snow trilogy are constantly fighting it out for my favourite YA books. Looking forward to seeing what middlegrades make your xmas list!!
Stephen King and romance? That's a weird combination! I hope you enjoy them and yeah I absolutely love a floppy paperback.
Really please with what I read in November (message 5).Now to set goals for December:

Zaara wrote: "I'll reply in a bit...XO"This is a very late composite reply, sorry I typed it long ago and forgot to post it, I can't now find the post where you told me about going to Torquay:
Re Mum: Actually there was nothing to do but wait around to hear news and watch scambaiting videos (I got started watching/searching for these when my BFF got ripped off her father’s life savings, invested in some shady investments that promised doublequick returns and now ther’s this phase where YouTube won’t stop recommending the darn things) or old episodes of cop shows (I like those) on my phone. Did you start watching the Wheel of Time?
Torquay is Agatha Christie’s hometown, I love her to bits. I hope you enjoy your stay, I guess it’s no longer a sleepy little seaside place. And a reading retreat sounds like a wonderful idea!!! Get you lots of snacks and mebbe you can post something on your Insta? If you do, lemme know and I will go see immediately. I think Siobhan changed her handle or something because I went (many months later) to look for some post she said me to see and couldn’t find it.
Does it still count as Christmas shopping :D if the books arrived already? Yeah Six of Crows, they are beautiful editions but I’ve read them already. I may do a full Grisha reread next year sometime.
Re bookboxes…I’m not usually too fond of lots of bells and whistles (such as char art, which I feel spoils the story for me) and having incomplete junk from lots of fandoms that I don’t follow…which is why I don’t get lots of bookboxes but I think I should like a specially curated one…mebbe a DOSaB one because those are such beautiful books. Of course I like watching unboxings and hauls,,,all the lovely stuff and tissue paper which crinkles and candles… but I like thrift shopping hauls and I like the mystery of untidy mismatched piles of books and higgledy piggledy bookshops all corners and angles and bookSMELLS…you don’t get that Hatchards or B&N or Kinokuniya or Dymocks. And also don’t you miss the days when everything wasn’t so socially hyped and you bought a book because YOU found it intriguing went into it not knowing anything and it was like a little jewel of a secret inside you? I envy the ppl who found ASOIAF in the nineties or who read Gormenghast as it came out.
I got the Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom, the buttery cover (NOT the special edition hardback that everyone is overswooning now on the tweets) Song of Achilles, almost all of Sophie Anderson’s backlist (Gavin said to!), City of Miracles of course, Wonderscape, I got 7 husbands of Evelyn Hugo (I must be the last person in the world who heard of it) and lots more. I got the floppy paperbacks for my Arc of a Scythe reread that Anni was telling me to do soon…I’m like Siobhan, if I like a book, I gotta have it in physicals.
Next I will prolly get Red White & Royal Blue because you and Melissa love that so much…right now, it seems a WILDLY improbable premise to me. It’ll be interesting to see how she makes it work. And I really need (not want, need!) new editions of P&P (though the one I have is very beautiful) and Jane Eyre (beautiful too and beloved but SO DAMN BATTERED) by now because I’ve had it since school (still have my A-level study notes in it) and it came with me everywhere. How many editions of P&P do you have?
I haven't started watching Wheel of Time yet. I'm still hoping to reread books 1-3 before I do. Plans to read book 1 in the background of Sarum/Prince of Thieves/Deadhouse Gates 😅Yes I've been to visit her house Greenway Estate a few times (its owned by the National Trust). I used to read Agatha Christie books a lot (mainly Poirot, wasn't that bothered about Marple) but then I got bored of the mystery genre as a whole so never read her again. And yes I'll definitely post some pictures of my reading retreat. I don't know if its changed but Siobhan's Insta handle is siobhansmanybooks.
While I love booktube for bringing to my attention lots of self published books I may never find out about otherwise I agree that some books can get overhyped and so books you would otherwise have enjoyed end up making you feel disappointed because it didn't quite live up to the unrealistic hype. However, I ended up reading Six of Crows purely coz I got sucked in by the hype as I didn't think it would be my kind of book and it ended up being one of my favourites.
I actually read the first book in ASOIAF about 5 years before they announced they were adapting it for TV. I really liked it obviously but never found the time to continue. Then finding out it was going to be adapted prompted me to read the 2nd book, but then I never got any further. 2022 will be the year I reread them and then progress past book 2 I swear it!! 😉
Oh yeah those are nice editions. I originally just bought the UK paperbacks (in mismatched sizes) but last year I bought the floppy paperback and I LOVE them. That's a good haul I just bought Sophie Anderson's books myself. I have them earmarked (as well as a potential Six of Crows duology reread for a readothon that'll be happening sometime in 2022.
I highly approve of getting RW&RB. Such a good book. I read One Last Stop last month and while I really liked it all it made me want to do was reread RW&RB yet again. I agree that the premise isn't very realistic but realism isn't something I'm particularly bothered about in my romance books.
I have 4 copies at the moment, my original ancient and battered Penguin Classics edition, the Tv adaptation cover edition, the Penguin English Library edition and Penguin Classics Deluxe edition but I have my eye on a couple more hahaha.
I’ll happily join you to reread Six of Crows anytime you decide you wanna for the readathons. Just let me know a bit in advance…and the Sophie Andersen too tho those would be fun to read in the colder months I;m more than happy to BR for whenever you say.

Hopefully the readathon will be in the winter. The first weekend long round was. Although I think the next one is going to be a month long.
BTW I don't know if you saw my message but I did set up that readathon post you mentioned in message 4 of my buddy read tracker in case you ever need to know what I have planned for the month readathon wise.
