Marigold was being dragged by May into this strange restaurant. May was right, though. She did like it already just by sight. Marigold often didn't allow herself time to go on expensive ventures such as this, but if it was with her friend then she'd allow it. Tables were covered in white cloth, leather-edged menus neatly placed atop by neatly folded napkins. Waiters and waitresses glided around the room, stopping at couples and groups of Rabbits celebrating anniversaries or birthdays. There was an area leading out to the balcony, vines with blooming pale flowers curling around the stone walls. Of course, loving anything to do with nature, Marigold chose a spot outside, a wonderful view of the street below.
The seats were made for Rabbits. When Marigold sat down, she grimaced as her knees were cinched towards herself. Earnestly she called a waiter, pointing at her rather small chair. Most restaurants carried multiple sizes of chairs for situations like these and a larger one was soon enough brought out.
"It's a nice place. Thank you for sharing it with me," Marigold voiced, a warm smile crossing her face.

"Yes! Very good food!" May was quite shocked that Marigold hadn't been here before, yet she kind of understood, she wasn't really one to go out too much on her own or for any big show of something. She clasped her hands together, excited to be having a meal with her friend. She had been here before with another friend, but May couldn't seem to remember what she had gotten, she knew she couldn't pronounce it, but what was it? "Good wine here," She said with a sly smile as if she wasn't allowed to have wine and she was sneaking some. She honestly wasn't the biggest fan of wine, but she liked to try some every now and then. She looked through the menu, unable to pronounce any of the names, but she knew one of the pre-meal thingies had garlic in its name, so it had to be good. She pointed to it before asking Marigold, "What does say?" After saying that she realized she forgot a word and asked it again, "What does it say?"

Marigold had so much fun watching May's little quirks and mannerisms. Her hair shone in the sparkling sunlight, amethyst eyes so intent on reading each word that it made her head spin. She grinned when May did, thinking it'd be interesting to try something new. She'd had alcohol before, although she hadn't tried anything with an interesting flavor. Her eyes drifted towards the wine section, reading each of the labels. Some of the words she didn't know because they were foreign and others were honestly just things she'd never read of. Marigold recognized the ingredients, though, and got a pear flavored champagne.
"In appetizers?" Marigold asked, glancing where May was pointing at. "That's garlic bread. Haven't you had it before? It's pretty common in restaurants." She wasn't sure what kind of food they served in the Moth Kingdom, but if May hadn't had it before, she was going to have it today. She wouldn't allow her friend to miss out on an opportunity like this.
She looked over her own menu, disheartened to see there wasn't any artificial meat being sold. It was more expensive in the Rabbit Kingdom since there weren't too many of her kind living here. Definitely harder to find companies that even imported it, too. Marigold settled for chia bowl, consisting of fruit, yogurt, and chia seeds. "May, what are you thinking of getting?" she asked, setting down the menu. A light breeze was in the air, carrying down the sweet scent of flowers and fruit.

"Maybe," She responded before putting a finger to her chin, a simple thing she does when trying to remember things. She thought for a moment before excitedly saying, "I don't think I have!" She was excited to have something for the first time, especially since it was with Marigold. That would make it even better, to have it with a friend. She looked down at the menu for a moment, "Maybe ravioli! We had best near home!" She clapped her hands quietly after saying this. She felt so happy to be sharing a meal with Marigold, it was just so fun! She stood up and went to the railing, looking out over the edge, laughing after realizing that there were people seated underneath the overhang.
After sitting back down she happily asked, "What are you getting?"

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

"A chia bowl. Fruit is too delicious to pass up," Marigold said. "You mentioning ravioli has made me reconsider, but I think I'll stay with my chia seeds," she added with a smirk. A waiter came over, handing them their drinks. She saw the pear champagne, shaded peach with bubbles racing to the surface. A green slice was stuck on the glass's edge. Marigold took a sip, enjoying its mild yet enticing flavor.
"Anything new lately?" she asked once she'd set down her drink, tossing a brown curl over her shoulder. They hung out often, but it seemed memorable life events were happening even if they'd only been apart for a few days. New people, new places, new events. Marigold was always curious what was going on in other people's lives. Especially May's. She was so interesting, so funny even if she didn't always intend to be. Marigold wished that May could see her feelings without her having to speak the words, but it seemed they would always remain on this one sided standstill.

"Hmm," She audibly said, another indicator that she was thinking. She couldn't remember too much but then she suddenly realized something fun she had done. "I had pink cactus fruit!" She excitedly said, although she still couldn't remember what it was called though. She even still had the cut on her hand. It had healed quite well, although she still couldn't bear to take the bandage off. May showed Marigold her hand, almost triumphantly, as though it was a trophy she was showing off, not something she got from her own stupidity while cutting fruit.
"What did you do?" She asked, happy to hear about Marigold's life too. She loved hearing Marigold talk, she just had such a pretty voice. Her voice reminded May of honey for some odd reason.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

"Dragon fruit?" Marigold questioned, trying to pinpoint what matched that description. The name implied it contained the meat of those long dead creatures, although it was normal fruit like any other. When May showed her palm, she traced the lines of the pale bandage. "Is it healing well?" she asked, worried May hadn't taken the proper precautions in bandaging herself. It wasn't that she thought she was too dumb to do it, but May often forgot things like that or simply had never done it herself before.
"Ah, well, I visited my family last weekend. It was nice and all my siblings were excited to see me," she shared, smiling at the memory. The house was still bustling as ever even without her presence. Marigold loved her family, but she couldn't stay for too long or else they'd begin to get on her nerves again. "We made a cake together, but the youngest ate more than half of it."

"Yeah!" She exclaimed, that sounded like it could be right, although she was aware she could be mixing two things up. She nodded, recalling how she got the cut, her just being so silly while trying to peel the fruit. "Put the . . . the stuff you said to put on cut on it," she paused for a moment before continuing, "I think it's healing good, have not checked in a while."
May nodded, happy to see Marigold happy, even though it was quite a common thing to happen. Her eyes lit up at the mention of cake, she just loved cake so much and immediately asked, "What kind of cake?" She loved to know these tiny little things, even if they'd never be useful.
Se smiled when the waiter came by to the table, she could finally order something more than just water. She excitedly said to the waiter, "Uhm, garlic bread and," She paused, kind of forgetting her order. She quickly announced, "Oh! Sweet potato ravioli!"

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Marigold nodded. "Good, I'm glad," she said.
"Cheesecake," she replied, savoring the memory of the spongy texture. "We also put raspberries on top," she added, 'raspberries' being more accented than the rest. That word was just harder for her, though it wasn't unintelligible.
She looked up at the waiter that came again, smiling to herself when May took the opportunity to speak. The more she practiced, the better she'd get with words. "I'll get the chia bowl," she told the waiter. The waiter quickly left, already rushing to ask the orders of other guests. She stared over the balcony, the other buildings and streets below seeming so interesting. Marigold saw various shop signs, noticing new shops that she could go to later on. "May, do you have any favorite shops near here? I haven't explored this area too much," she said over her shoulder, the light wind blowing her brown curls to her right.

She clapped her hands, visualizing the taste of the cheesecake. Suddenly her eyes lit up upon her mentioning raspberries. "I love those!" She said that but she'd have the same reaction for almost any other fruit, she just loved fruit in general. It was just so sweet and nice!
May's eyes lit up when she was asked this. She quickly answered, "The flower shop!" Just as she said that she remembered that she forgot the marigold she was going to give Marigold in a vase at home. "Goodness! I forgot marigold!" She felt bad for that bit, she knew it was just sitting there in a vase, left untouched by anybody. May got up before strolling behind Marigold, despite there being space to both sides she decided to stand on her tip-toes, in an attempt to see over her shoulder, despite her obviously not being able to.

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

Ahh, Marigold should've known that about May. She loved flowers. Well, she did happen to love most things, but flowers in particular.
"Forgot . . me?" Marigold asked, cocking her head, brown ears lowering.
"Uh, what are you doing?" Marigold turned her head to May, a smile on her face. She was confused why May was standing behind her, on her tip-toes.
The waiter came back, garlic bread on a plate, olive oil on the side. Marigold could feel her mouth already watering, and she got a piece of bread, dipping it into the olive oil. "This. is. the. best!" Marigold said between mouthfuls, closing her eyes as the heavenly taste rolled in.

"Oh! No, no, no! The flower!" May exclaimed while waving her hands in an x-like motion. "I bought you flower!" She said, still making the x motion.
She giggled before enthusiastically saying, "Trying to see over your shoulder!" She knew she wouldn't be able to, but it'd still be fun to try, maybe she somehow got taller, despite being much past the age she stopped growing. She wasn't too sure why she had done it, she knew she was too short to, but that didn't change the fact that it was fun.
She was kind of disappointed when the garlic bread arrived, it just looked like bread with green stuff on it. She nonchalantly took a bite before being blown away. It was amazing! "Wow!!!!!!" She said, unable to express exactly how amazing it tasted, other than that simple statement. She was surprised how something so simple was so good, it just seemed like bread with a bit of butter and green stuff, yet it was absolutely amazing. "Thank you!" She wasn't sure who she was thanking, but it just felt right to say that.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

"Oh," Marigold said with a giggle. The rapid motions were so hilarious to her.
She nodded slowly, still raising a dark brow.
May's reaction was perfection. Marigold loved to show May new things, new places, and this just made her day! The emotion sent butterflies soaring in her stomach, inspiration for a poem dinging in her head.
Marigold blushed. "I mean, you showed this place to me in the first place. I wouldn't have been able to do this without you." The words were the truth, but in a broader aspect. She experienced so many new emotions whenever around May, ones that made her happier than ever.
She dug into her baby blue purse, fishing out a small notebook. Several tasseled bookmarks stuck out, edges frayed from use. She flipped to the newest page, clicking her pen and scrawling something. It was a poem idea, one for the emotion of this day. Marigold was afraid that if she kept the idea in her head, it would fade away and she'd have no words left to put in ink.
The waiter came back, their food in hand. The scent wafted up her nose, sweet and wonderful.

"But still! Thank you!" May nodded, she told herself that her thanking Marigold was still needed, without her May wouldn't have tried garlic bread. She wouldn't know how amazing it was, even though it seems so simple. She was still shocked by that fact. It just looked like bread with green stuff! How was it so good?
Upon Marigold pulling out the notebook she was curious, she wanted to see what was being written, but she knew it was rude to look over without permission. She asked in a sing-song tone, "What are you doing?"
She smiled when the waiter came, she felt so excited to just finally be able to eat the food with Marigold, she was more excited for that then she was to eat the food. She was just glad to be with her friend.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Marigold blushed. She didn't want to hide anything from May, but she didn't want to confess right now.
"Oh, it's just a poem. You can read it. It's, uh, about some couple I saw walking earlier. Definitely not about me. Or anyone I know." She said that all very fast, feeling dumber with each sentence. Instead of making herself more of a fool, she passed the notebook to May. "Here," she murmured.
The food tasted delicious. Well, that was to be expected at a place like this. She couldn't help but smile. May was so perfect . . so pretty. Her heart filled with longing. "May, I love you," she said, hoping this could be the time to tell her feelings. Sure, May was a bit of an airhead, but that would be enough for her to get the hint, right? Right . . ?

"Hm, okay!" May didn't get any of the signs that it could possibly not be about that couple, she didn't think about how it seemed like Marigold was just blurting that it wasn't about her or anybody she knew, she didn't think about any of those things. She only thought about how it was very prettily described. "Very good!" She thought it was such an interesting thing, to write about people you've only viewed for a little while.
"Huh?" May felt so confused. She felt a flush come to her face, yet she hid it, scared that Marigold might've been saying similar to how you would tell your parents that. It'd be bad if she was getting all embarrassed just for nothing. She felt cold, yet hot at the same time.
"Do you," May paused, "really mean it?"

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

Even though May called all of her poems good, it still made Marigold so happy to see the one it was meant for to appreciate her work. Part of her wished that May could see all the clues. It was written to a purple-haired girl, after all! And it specifically said she liked garlic bread in one of the verses! Oh, May could be so clueless sometimes. Marigold loved it.
Marigold was blushing even more than May. Her skin deepened and she fought her eyes from fleeing to anywhere except May, but she kept them there. Now was not the time to look away. "Well, uh, I mean, of course I do. Why would I not?" she said quickly, just wanting it all to get out. May was on the same page, she was sure. Hopefully. Right? Her thoughts raced as she clutched the edges of her floral dress, willing her anxieties to dissipate. This wasn't happening. What would May think? Would she only see her as a friend? Ahh...

Her words were coming out quietly and they sounded as if she needed to clear her throat, yet she didn't. May slowly asked, "As a friend?" Deep down she wished Marigold meant it romantically, she wished for that more than anything. yet Marigold didn't mean it that way. She tried to not think about that, tried to not let herself be tortured by that small thought that became much more than small all in the time that it took for Marigold's response. She didn't do well not thinking about that thought, she could feel the tears coming to her eyes, despite Marigold having said nothing yet.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

"Well, uh, you know . . ," Marigold said, but couldn't say anything more for a moment. She watched May's expression and saw a multitude of answers as to its meaning. Then the tears. Oh, what if she was scared to lose a friend? To have their relationship be ruined because of Marigold's unrequited love? She lowered her head and clasped her hands together, feeling the soft strands of brown fur that grew. "Whatever you'd like it to mean." She shrugged her shoulders and felt the blood rush to her ears and they kept moving, lowering as low as they could go.

May felt so many things she couldn't describe. She tried to wipe the tears from her eyes, yet they kept coming back, it was so annoying. She kept rubbing her eyes, just trying to get the tears to go away. Upon Marigold's response, all she could manage to say was a quiet, "Oh." She finally managed to stop the tears, but that didn't change anything.
She was quickly reminded of her food and went back to her usual bubbly mood. She clasped her hands together and quickly began to eat again, it seemed as if she had forgotten completely about what had previously happened, yet she hadn't. It was staying in her mind and wouldn't leave, but she was thinking of multiple other things on top of it too, that was the only reason her emotion had greatly changed, all her thoughts came flooding back. They were all completely different topics, none really stuck out to her, they just all blended together. They became a indescribable mess.

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

Marigold had messed things up. She felt so terrible. May knew about her feelings and she was crying because it was so awkward. She cursed herself, just wanting to run out of the restaurant as quickly as possible.
She also focused on her food, glad when the plate was empty. She loved being around May, but not when it was like this. If Marigold had simply not told her . . not basically confessed everything right then and there . . this situation wouldn't be happening. May seemed happy, but she could tell the thoughts that lingered behind her eyes. Oh, there was no way there friendship could be even more done.
Once they'd both finished, she quickly said, "I'll pay. After all, you've done so much already. And I can afford it." She just wanted to go, and quickly paid the waiter.

"No no! I'm paying!" May was always adamant about paying for any meals they got together, it was the least she could do for her friend. She had only willing let Marigold pay a few times, but those were normally because she forgot her own money or something along those lines. "Oh wait, you already did," she said, sounding slightly sad, but her demeanor quickly returned to usual as they returned the cheque. "See you tommorow!!" She had a habit of leaving after meals, unless somebody said otherwise, but she usually forgot people could say otherwise.

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

Marigold gave a halfhearted smile, quickly turning and walking out, the stares of customers following her steps. A twinge of regret sparked in her chest, but she knew things had to be this way. If not, it'd all be over.

((okay ima end it here))
