"According to an analysis of the fossil record of North American fossil carnivorans, the decline of borophagines from a diversity of about 30 species 15 million years ago to extinction was largely driven by competition with felids and canines.[8] Felids invaded the continent from Eurasia about 20 million years ago and were better ambush predators, in part due to their retractable claws.[9] Climate change, which led to the replacement of North American forests with grasslands, may also have been a factor;[10] borophagines were less suited to running down prey than canines.[8] Although these specific species developed powerful limbs that are capable of cracking bones in vicious pounce attacks, other carnivorous species that rely on quick ambush for catching prey were likely more successful than the slower Borophaginae. [11]-Wikipedia
That's actually pretty cool! The family Borophaginae [extinct, closely related to Canidae] became extinct because of a (food) WAR WITH CATS! This honestly sounds like something in human history ngl.
I'm totally making a racoon-dog character sometime! They are just too.. u n i q u e to be left out of the fun. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...
For Reference:
[going to make a Golden Jackal spy]

Also, have you heard jackals cry? That is honestly more terrifying than an EAS.

appearance ;
Liam Quail is a mix between human [homo sapien] and golden jackal [canis aureus]. He has the tall ears and long tail of a jackal, as well as the physical heart of one. Over 80% of his neurological system is humanoid, leading him to be intelligent and skillful in social affairs. However, he does have a small part dedicated to the senses of a golden jackal, allowing him to hear and sense danger well. Like most animals in the Canidae family, he cannot consume chocolate and is extremely sensitive to poison. Even a small dose could have potentially lethal impacts. The rest of his body is humanoid, though his fingernails are more claw-like than usual and are extremely sharp & strong.
distinguishing features ⛤
Liam has golden-ish hair, with the golden-ish ears of a jackal, with dark streaks appearing randomly. His eyes are green, and he stands at about 5 feet, 4 inches. He's rather slim, with a weight of 100lbs at most.

Liam Quail has.. interesting genetics. Over the course of his lineage, some feline genes were mixed into the bloodline, mostly staying dormant. However, the power of invisibility trumped strength for Liam, which is why he's amazing at sneaking up on people, but not the best at raw strength. His invisibility is slightly weaker than that of a feline, and he must hold his breath during the duration of the effect.
