I didn't vote for the "first in a series" tag, but I'm glad it won. I'm reading many books (or authors) that I've been meaning to read, but never got around to. This is my first book by Ursula K. Le Guin, and it won't be my last. This book contains some insights and life lessons that I might have liked even as a teenager (many decades ago). I was always asking librarians for new books, and I wonder if someone suggested this to me (and I rejected it as a "boy's book," along with The Hobbit). I'm glad I finally picked it up. I like the way she writes, and I plan to read more. I chose this one first since it was first in a series, but the topics of some of her other books sounded even more interesting. So thanks PBT!

She was an outstanding writer. When I read this book, in my review, I labeled Ged "the early Harry Potter". After reading the entire series I wish I could take that back, Guin's characters are so much deeper and complex. I am glad you liked it Nancy and look forward to seeing your comments on book 2
