I like that one a lot Bill! I guess for someone very versed in Buddhism, it might be old hat. But at the time I first read it, the perspective was fresh for me. The writing style itself I also found very appealing.

I also read and enjoyed Narcissus and Goldmund, though not quite as much as Siddhartha.

I'm rereading Beauty of the Broken.

I've downloaded several Christmas-themed novellas from Project Gutenberg, most of them with a copyright prior to 1920. Looking forward to some uplifting reading during December and taking in some history at the same time.

Hope and Other Dangerous Pursuits - fictional profiles of several Morrocans desperate enough to risk illegal emigration to Europe. Kinda sad, but solid writing, realistic.

American Studies very well written about the frustrations of an aging gay man from the 40s to the 90s. I know that sounds depressing but I am really enjoying the musings of the narrator.

The Summer Book by the Swedish/Finnish writer Tove Jansson.

Getting close to done with the another group's read Native Country of the Heart: A Memoir by Cherríe L. Moraga. I wasn't sure what to expect based on some of Moraga's poetry that I read a long time ago, but I like it quite a lot! Pretty sure it's heading for 5★.

Also plugging along with The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah. It's not one I would probably have picked up on my own, but since it was another group's choice, I picked it up. I do like it so far - the story is great. I plan to pick up the pace on my reading next week during vacation. :)

Also reading two shorter books:

Re-reading The Country Between Us by Carolyn Forché. I'd originally read it a couple decades ago. Between her first and second books of poetry, she helped track down people disappeared during the military regime in El Salvador, and her experiences there completely changed her work. It's powerful stuff, though not easy to take.

And finally, reading The Chimes by Charles Dickens for the Christmas season.

Of Human Bondage by W. Somerset Maugham.

Slow Horses by Mick Herron, and The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett.

An ARC of Kiss and Tell by John Sam Jones.

Also Slouching Towards Bethlehem by Joan Didion.
