Sue | 2774 comments Jazz Bashara lives in Artemis, the only city on the moon.

She's a low-level criminal and smuggler who gets involved in what can only be described as a caper. The story is humorous and in the end fairly light hearted. I listened to the audio, which was really well-done, narrated by Rosario Dawson.

I loved The Martian, and while this book wasn't on the same level, it was enjoyable. It reminded me of Leviathan Wakes, but without the zombies.

The ending of the book seemed to point to a sequel, but as far as I can tell this is just a stand-alone.

John Warner (jwarner6comcastnet) | 121 comments I have read (or listened to) all three of Andy Weir's novels. I know what you mean about the ending of Artemis appearing as if a sequel is possible. Maybe Weir is keeping his options open. If I had to rank the three in interest to me it would be Project Hail Mary first, The Martian a close second, and Artemis a distant, but still good, third. I confess that I listened to Project Hail Mary and would recommend this book being read as an audiobook. It was an outstanding narration. Maybe if I had read his third, The Martian would come out ahead.

Robin P | 6061 comments I listened to all 3 and they all worked well that way. I liked that the heroine of Artemis is Muslim and it's no big deal, and I liked the heist aspect, but overall it wasn't as strong. Weir said in an interview that he gave all his best qualities to Mark Watney in the Martian, and his worst qualities to Jazz in Artemis. For Project Hail Mary, he worked on creating a new character outside himself. The Martian is still my favorite, Project Hail Mary drags on a bit in the first half. But once Rocky appears, it's fantastic.
