message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

Anybody start yet? I haven't, but hopefully will get some reading time today at work. I think it's going to be a slow day. :)

message 13: by Tanya (new)

Tanya WOOT! Outlander day :))))

@Shelly: yay for slow work days!

@Sarah: you can do it! You've got to hold off on the DNFing, though. The start is a little slow. Hang in there...

At least I have an attractive man to picture in my head as I read. He's cute.

message 18: by Tanya (new)

Tanya HAVE YOU NOT SEEN THE SHOW, SHELLY?!

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

No, never seen the show or read the books. But I have seen pictures of both the main actors.

At 4%

I'm not sure this will be one I can just sit down and binge-read. But I'm determined to get past the beginning... lol :)

Same here. I'm at 6% and pretty much bored to death. Hanging on though. I have a bad reputation but I have principles too. No DNFing before the 20% mark^^

Ellen (EllenChristine) | 22 comments I'm amazed that you're not enthralled by the beauty of DG's beautiful orchestration of the English language. She does such an incredible job of structuring sentences. IMHO

Yes.

I can't say I'm impressed with the writing. At all:/ I'm at 19% and don't think I'll make it much farther. Just not my kind of book. But I knew that going in.

You guys enjoy your read/reread!:)

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm going to try and stick it out, but wow, you got to 19% in one day?!?!?! That is like you read a novella already.

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

Update: well, it's going to take me awhile to get through this, but I am not giving up. I'm only at about 14%. Parts of it have been enjoyable, but parts a bit boring. I'm going to keep going, though, it's just not one I'll be tearing through quickly. I'm still here, though. :)

Sue Hi I am Sue and have to confess to being an 'Outlander Virgin'.

I have had some of the books for a few years acquired through book shops closing and from used book shops although the books don't appear to be read. I have joined 'audible' and have the rest of series cheaply on audible.

The length of the books is daunting to me. I saw that the 'Outlander' has been serialised and shown in America. I have a 'Lovefilm' account and 'Outlander is available to me to watch online in the UK as part of my account and this has motivated me to 'pop' my Outlander 'cherry'.

I am mixing reading the book and watching episodes of the series, sometimes my reading in infront of episode watching and sometimes visa versa.

I am throughly enjoying both the TV series and the novel. I expected the book to be a difficult read as it is so long, but it is an easy read considering the information the author is giving the reader to digest. The TV adaptation is pretty good despite chopping up the story little and placing different events in a different places compared to the book.

Sue I think the author has been clever in creating the character Claire in as much as she is a nurse with a interest in botany she carves herself a useful role in Scotland in the 1700's. Things would have been difficult for Claire say if she was a typist. I am a nurse so I identify with Claire and I am finding the information about herbs interesting (she always has the right hers at the right time!)
