I definitely enjoyed this cleverly written travelogue about Australia, punctuated with lots of local and obscure Australian history. Bryson is a keen observer of the flora and fauna of Australia, mentioning that the country has "more things that will kill you than anywhere else." There are more species of poisonous snakes (8 of the top 10 world’s most toxic), huge poisonous and aggressive spiders, the world’s most lethal jelly fish, killer birds that look like emus with blades, and of course, salt water crocodiles.

What an interesting book. Bryson loves the country and especially the people who live in the remote areas. Australians, wherever they lived, seemed to be uniformly open, friendly, laid back and interesting.

While I read I felt like Bryson took me along with him and I never look back. It's a delight to be included on any one of Bill Bryson's journeys, and I can't wait for another.

I read this a while back and remember laughing hard at the exchange he had with the boy where salty language was deployed (I think it was on a construction site and bricks were involved)??? Anyway, it stuck with me, kind of. Glad you also enjoyed it.
