In the beginning of the book, it’s immediately clear that there’s distrust and divide between the magical and non-magical folks. I’m thinking of the scene in the hospital (the very beginning of the book) and the words of the staff after Whit’s failure to heal Pearl. I’m thinking of the doctor’s call to “submit.”
Do you think, given how the story has played out so far (and the behavior of our characters), that the Normals have reason to dislike/distrust the magical people? Or perhaps these sentiments are driven more by envy or ideology?
