I'm listening to the audio book this time around and am really enjoying the narrator. I love the set-up for this story. It's an interesting puzzle and (I could be wrong) but I think that the 2 women falling off the university clock tower was an actual historical event.
I'm listening to the audio book too. The narrator has an excellent reading voice. I know he's reading but his enunciation and flow makes the story come alive.
The characters in this book are very interesting. I wonder what kind of relationship Diana and Jim will develop. There are already people lying and hiding information. An intriguing start!

Hi everyone, I finished chapters 1 - 12 and want to leave some comments before reading any further. I'm listening to the audiobook and also reading the print book. Not really simultaneously because my brain doesn't read and listen at the same speed. But I find that I retain more if I read in print, but I can read faster if I've heard it first. Ha! I don't do this often, but if I need to comment on a book, it helps.
I'm very intrigued by the mystery and have been very interested by the interviews so far. I think I would have been a bit more ticked off at the librarian for getting rid of the clothes so quickly. I would have definitely given him the old "What were you thinking?" lecture. Of course that line of thought may only lead us to a red herring. It does seem like Maneck has been framed. It will be interesting to meet him. I like Diana and hope that she will take an active part in the investigation.
I hope everyone noticed the glossary in the back of the book. I read through it before starting the book and have already referred back to it a couple of times. One word I had to look up that wasn't there was "peeress." I didn't really understand that little exchange where the word was used at the end of chapter 9. I mean I basically did, but it just seemed odd.
Hope you all are enjoying the book so far.

I remember seeing the term peeress, which I have seen before. I must have encountered it in mysteries and historical fiction set in England.

This will be the discussion thread for the first 12 chapters of Murder in Old Bombay. If you are like me and read several books at once, you may want to read only 2 to 3 chapters per day each day of the month. If you are a fast reader, then you may want to read in bigger chunks and get done sooner. Either way is totally fine. The chapters are fairly short and I am in the process of counting the pages per chapter and figuring out which chapters are the shortest to see when are the best days to read 3 chapters.
Here is my personal reading schedule. Feel free to follow it if you want. My goal is to have these chapters done by Saturday and leave comments by Sunday.
March 1: Chapters 1-3
March 2: Chapters 4-5
March 3: Chapters 6-8
March 4: Chapters 9-10
March 5: Chapters 11-12
