Yay! So should we make a schedule? I was thinking we could take about 6-7 days? That way it would be 7-6 chapters a day (it has 43 chapters). So the schedule is:17th: Chapters 1-6
18th: Chapters 7-12
19th: Chapters 13-18
20th: Chapters 19-24
21st: Chapters 25-30
22nd: Chapters 31-36
23rd: Chapters 37-43
okayy, I will start after a while so it turns out perfectly :))and yeah, the spam messages are annoying🙄
I just finished the first 6 chapters too! I like the plot so far but the writing style is throwing me off a bit, although I can't pinpoint why exactly
Anni♡ wrote: "could i join? i’m currently on chapter 14 (i’ll wait for y’all) so far it’s kinda slow for me 😬"yep, feel free to join :)
I can't say is it slow for now but I just meet the characters lol
Quinty wrote: "I just finished the first 6 chapters too! I like the plot so far but the writing style is throwing me off a bit, although I can't pinpoint why exactly"Idk, maybe you need time to get used to the way of writing
for now is something between The little mermaid and Pirates of the Caribbean
I think it's also partly because it's a whole new world that I don't know anything about, so the author is describing things in a lot of detail to let us know all about it. I'm personally not a fan of too much detail because I like to fill in some things myself. So that also distracts me from the actual plot a bit. And the word use also isn't always the easiest (for me as a non-native speaker anyway)
Anni♡ wrote: "could i join? i’m currently on chapter 14 (i’ll wait for y’all) so far it’s kinda slow for me 😬"For sure! The more the merrier :) I'll edit my older message to write down the exact schedule
As a non-native speaker i get you and yeah, definitely is full with details but i hope is because the author wants to describe this new world to usBut yeah, it's difficult- she shows us not just one, but two worlds and they are so different and I get a slight split personality lol
I was also wondering (you know, Elian said that he wad hurted many times in the past because of sirens) how he survived, how he killed them...?
Yeah I hope we get more explanation for that later in the book. I'd enjoy it being a more magical explanation than it just being focus or whatever. Maybe he has some siren heritage, that would be cool. I imagine killing isn't that hard as long as you are able to not give into their song
I just finished chapter 12 and I'm kind of disappointed by the lack of explaining of the magic. Like with the compass, I would have enjoyed knowing more about how it can tell the truth. I don't expect Elian to know all the ins and outs of it (although it wouldn't surprise me if he did, since he seems interested in that sort of thing) but some explanation would have been nice
idk what to tell - i still can't decide if I'm fascinated or scared of how brutal and bloodthirsty the sirens are
and what do you think about Sakura/or should i call her Yukiko now??/ - I was definitely intrigued by her character
Didoncho wrote: "idk what to tell - i still can't decide if I'm fascinated or scared of how brutal and bloodthirsty the sirens are"I like it. Just like I like the conflict between the mermaids and sirens. I like that it sways a bit from the usual myths
Didoncho wrote: "and what do you think about Sakura/or should i call her Yukiko now??/ - I was definitely intrigued by her character"I'm intrigued too, although I am really curious how Elian is going to get out of that deal he made. Maybe he can make her queen while not becoming king himself or something? But that would suck for his sister, who I do really like and who I feel wants to be queen too
Quinty wrote: But that would suck for his sister, who I do really like and who I feel wants to be queen too agree, I like her and their brother-sister relationship
also, I like how the author has made their families completely different - as evil, power-hungry, and mean the sea queen is, even with her daughter, as I enjoyed reading about Elian's family.
Yeah, you can tell they really do care about each other. I'm curious as to whether Lira has any other family though (besides her cousin) like a father or sisters. I feel like that dynamic would be interesting, especially since the Sea Queen is so mean
Quinty wrote: "Yeah, you can tell they really do care about each other. I'm curious as to whether Lira has any other family though (besides her cousin) like a father or sisters. I feel like that dynamic would be ..."Yeaah but the sirens are only female so how they were born? I'm trying to remember what was written about that - maybe they were born by the sea or something like that
And her necklace? I just feel it important but can't say why (like yk in the little mermaid she ,,collected,, her voice in shell and maybe in here is something like that)
Tesseract wrote: "Hey! Could I join too? I discovered this right after finishing chapter 7 so I'm taking it as a sign lol"Welcome :)
Didoncho wrote: "Yeaah but the sirens are only female so how they were born? I don't recall that, but maybe I just missed it. But that's definitely something I'm interested in too, although I somehow doubt we'll get all the answers we want in the book lol. The necklace keeps coming back, so I also definitely think that has some prominent role
Tesseract wrote: "Hey! Could I join too? I discovered this right after finishing chapter 7 so I'm taking it as a sign lol"Yeah of course! Welcome :)
Quinty wrote: "Didoncho wrote: "Yeaah but the sirens are only female so how they were born? I'm trying to remember what was written about that - maybe they were born by the sea or something like that"Did they ..."
I don't think they said that they're only female but i just decided it 😁😅
Yeah I think so far the only sea creatures we have encountered are female, so I also assumed that, but then I was thinking and I don't think it was every explicitly stated that it was only females. So could go either way tbh. Maybe it's like with bees, where the males only serve to breed with the queen lol
Finished today's reading and I am liking it so far, mainly the plot and the characters. I'm still not convinced of the writing style though. I am still curious as to how sirens are born/made, since Lira mentioned heirs are easily made and that they are born out of salt and sea, so I don't imagine there is pregnancy or whatever involved.
Yep, the story is getting interesting and i really start liking Lira and ElianAnd i was kinda surprised that she killed her aunt..i suspicious it when she has to kill her cousin but don't want to believe it. But that's explain a lot...
I think her aunt knew she was gonna change the kingdom, the way she said "be the queen we need" or whatever. It's clear Lira did it just to survive - and that actually all her cruelty was just born out of a place to try and appease her mother and her aunt knew that.
Agree!.. besides, we realized that not everyone is as cruel as her mother, but Lira has decided to start pleasing her and to fight for her fertilizer so as not to tease others / for whom, she will hardly admit, but she cares, like her cousin.. /
and there is some magic around Elian that protects him in one way or another, but they only mentioned it
Well they can catch the sirens by using a sonar, but they did allude to Elian having extra protection around him, although I feel like that also could have been interpreted as just luck...
His father gave it to him right? Just as he gave him the compass.. So I guess the better question is where does the father keeps getting these magical things lol
Ugh finally read today's chapter(busy day) and all i want to say is that story is only getting betterSome things i like are Madrid and Kye relationship and Kye's protective feeling, if i can call it like that xD, also like how Madrid actually try to help Lira and I think that maybe they will become some kind of friends one day(i hope) but i also really enjoy Lira and Kai's conversations :))
Aaand finally we know how the sirens are born....not what exactly i imagine but better than nothing... For now I just can say that i don't like Lira "lover"
Quinty wrote: "His father gave it to him right? Just as he gave him the compass.. So I guess the better question is where does the father keeps getting these magical things lol"Oops, missed that part, but yeah lol
Yeah I'm glad we got to know more of the men/birth of siren part. I also really like Madrid and Lira's friendship, although I think it will make the betrayal so much worse. Kye is really cute, constantly trying to protect Elian. I get why he feels this way towards Lira - I also wouldn't trust her if I were him.
Agree, he just want Elian to be safe and protect himI was also thinking about some kind of a betrayal but still can't decide who has a chance to do it (or just don't want to accept the chance to be someone i like :\ )
Well I mean obviously Lira is not just going to hand over the eye and let Elian kill all the sirens. And when the crew finds out she is a siren herself, they'll see that as a betrayal. I don't think anyone else is going to betray Elian, but I am curious to see how everyone is going to react to the news that Lira is a siren. Also I want to know if they at all noticed what just happened on the ship lol, like will they know the Sea Queen was on board?? Guess we'll find out tomorrow lol
Yeah, for sure! And also the irony that she collected so many hearts but still don't know what is love... I like that they still don't trust each other and it's not like first-sight love...
I'm in love with them. They're so cute. I wonder when Elian will find out Lira's a siren, since he seemed to make the connection between Rycroft's wounds and his own. And I really hope we get to know more about his magical knife, since they keep mentioning that Lira's somehow drawn to it
god, they are adorable 😍I think Elian is already beginning to guess who she is and is now slowly tying things up
very happy and almost 100% sure that sooner or later Lyra and Kye will get along, but now that she has proven herself to him, saving Elian ... 🤗
and I liked that even though they didn't realize it, they became attached to each other, seeing themselves in the other..
I don't think Elian knows yet. Although I imagine he must find out soon - there are only about 100 pages left and there's still a lot of the story to get through. I hope it doesn't start to feel rushed, because it was obviously very slow burn from the start. I wanna see Lira defend Elian from her mother, because the Sea Queen is definitely gonna try and kill him
Quinty wrote: ...I wanna see Lira defend Elian from her mother, because the Sea Queen is definitely gonna try and kill him we will definitely see something like this, probably accompanied by a speech from the Sea queen, how human emotions have taken over Lira, made her weaker and more human, etc., but I'm curious if her last words, while she dies, / because she will probably die, we want a happy ending after all :)) / will be that she is finally proud of her daughter because she finally became as brutal as her and stood up to her or she will stay nasty and will curse them on her deathbed /and that in case if Elian doesn't kill her first, but I hope Lira to be/
