I read a book in the late 90s/early 00s about a local band in Northern England (I think but could have been London) who wrote a song that became popular and became famous for a short while which I think had the lyrics "down and out, baby when I met you I was down and out"

Other memories of book:
- Girl leaves home / runs away and meets the band / singer at a service station on motorway
- Girl joins band (I think) and also pretty sure she dates the lead singer
- It's a one hit wonder type thing and band enjoy mild fame
- There's a drummer called Rollo / Rolo
- Band eventually break up
