I was on the fence with this one. Hoping to get some reviews and maybe add it next month.
I got Girl, Forgotten and When We Were Bright and Beautiful, but added several others to my TBR list for future add-ons.
Just got my box and found a little surprise besides the books I ordered. I got a booklet on translations for the book
. I didn't see anything on the website stating anything about the booklet so I assumed it was minimal like some of the other books they have had such as
.I haven't started to read the book so I'm not sure how much Spanish words it actually has.
Did anyone see on the website where it mentioned that there would be a booklet with translations?

I didn’t see anything where you order, but I have seen a lot of people complaining about it as there are large sections in Spanish in the book that need to be translated.

I totally saw that coming. Could have been done better. Maybe placing them in footnotes at the bottom of the page if it needed a translation or something like that.
My August pick is:
and I added
I am trying to limit myself to one add on each month because my TBR is getting out of hand

Daisy Darker, When We Were Bright and Beautiful, and The Devil Takes You Home. I'm super excited about all three books! I heard I should wait to read Daisy in October though since it takes place on Halloween :)
Got my box this morning! Can’t wait to get right into The Many Daughter Of Afong May, and a book I’ve wanted to read for a long time, that mirrors my life, Instructions for Dancing.

Honestly, I saw a lot of those complaints and they irritated me. The US never adopted English as its official language. A book could feasibly be written in any language and if a publisher picks it up, it's on the reader to decide if they want to go to the trouble of translating it. There are a lot of people who read in other languages and expecting a book from a bilingual author to be written exclusively in English when English, as a much younger language than the latin-based languages, may not have an exact sentiment in translation, is pretty much a first-world selfish sense of entitlement.
I'm an older white woman. I only speak English. Yet, it never bothers me when I come across passages requiring translation. I think it really stinks that BOTM and the author are being given so much grief over a GIFT INCLUDED FREE with purchase for a book that was obviously a labor of love for the author.
A few years ago, BOTM got incredible flack for not being "inclusive enough" and now, people are basically bitching about the fact that they ARE being inclusive, above and beyond. Very double-standard, very petty and mean, as far as I'm concerned.
