16% in and I can't believe how well the author has nailed the voices and characterization of both Leia and Han.- but especially Leia. Her portrayal is EXACTLY like that of Claudia Gray's. I love how we finally get to see Leia cope with the grief from the loss of her home and parents. Something that's always bothered me when watching the original trilogy is that we never see her personal loss acknowledged even once. The scenes in mourning add a lot more depth to Leia's character and the trauma they still haunts her.
Han and Lando being bros is the best. Also Lando lending him an Alderaanian jacket for his wedding 🥺.
We get a mention of the infamous Luke-Leia kiss and I agree with Luke "Let's never speak of it again".
There's also a really heartbreaking scene with the Force leading Leia to Vader's cooling funeral pyre and she spews out her hate and anger to his shrivelled helmet. It's also chilling as her behaviour and speech is eerily like that of Anakin's, including the "I HATE YOU!" and inability to let go of the past.
I finished too!!!! One of the things I really loved about the Legends Canon was Leia wrestling with her relationship to Vader. So I'm really glad they explored that in this book!!
And Han and Leia's honeymoon bliss, man I could just read a whole book of them being romantic and slightly domestic!!!!
Really really loved it!
My only small thing was the feeling like placing it on the Halcyon was a commercial for the Starcruiser hotel. Which is what it is, but that's the Disney injection and I wasn't loving that.
But really 10/10, highly recommend!!!
