Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-Thon discussion

There are 'genre' romance novels, quite literally a dime a dozen at thrift stores, cookie-cutter novels spat out by computer programs with a bit of gloss thrown in by their -author'. There are also well crafted 'genre' romances that follow the same basic structure but are actually written and edited well, and may not even be completely predicable from cover to cover. Some are sexy, some are geared towards specific categories of readers. There are also lots of books shelved in general or literary fiction that are about a love story, and may even have just as many sex scenes, maybe more, compared to books marketed as romance novels.

The Stand-In by Lily Chu I would call this a "rom-com". It was predictable and had some twists at the same time and got the heart fluttering⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I just listened to that audio. It was ok, but didn‘t do particularly much for me. ★★★☆☆

Neanderthal Seeks Human — another romcom. Pretty predictable, it was ok. Start to a series of several standalone novels.
