Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments The Lost Empress - Steve Robinson

On a foggy night in 1914, the ocean liner Empress of Ireland sank en route between Canada and England. The disaster saw a loss of life comparable to the Titanic and the Lusitania, and yet her tragedy has been forgotten.

When genealogist Jefferson Tayte is shown a locket belonging to one of the Empress’s victims, a British admiral’s daughter named Alice Stilwell, he must travel to England to understand the course of events that led to her death.

Tayte is expert in tracking killers across centuries. In The Lost Empress, his unique talents draw him to one of the greatest tragedies in maritime history as he unravels the truth behind Alice’s death amidst a backdrop of pre-WWI espionage.

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments Thanks very much for choosing The Lost Empress this month. It's on sale for £1 throughout the month and I'll be around for Questions and answers.

I'd also like to offer a signed paperback (of the winners choosing) as a prize. At the end of the month I'll grab all the entries in these threads, put them in my writing hat and get Mrs R to pick one out.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I can thoroughly recommend this as atmospheric, thrilling and unexpected.

Helen | 1 comments I listened to this as an audiobook. I thoroughly enjoyed the latest episode in JT's adventures - the past and present storylines were engaging and kept me walking longer with the dog, or sitting in my car after arriving home to hear just a bit more of the story. I thought this the best of the series so far.

Anita | 3313 comments Brilliant, fantastic, wonderful, I enjoyed every word and can't wait for the next one. Mr Robinson is very near the top of my top ten authors, his books grab you from the first page and keep you turning the pages till the end. Well worth every penny, read it, you won't regret it.

Sue (nzsue) | 6 comments Hi - do I need to have read the others in this series first? Thanks

message 7: by Steve (last edited Mar 01, 2015 09:08AM) (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments Thanks for your lovely comments, Kath, Helen, Anita.

Hi Sue! It can be read as a stand-alone story. They're all designed that way, so that you get a whole story in each book without having to have read the earlier ones, or continue to read more to get a satisfactory conclusion.

Sue (nzsue) | 6 comments Thank you Steve, it sounds very good, as do the others - they all look like good candidates for my ever growing virtual pile of books to be read!

message 9: by Maria (new)

Maria Schneider (bearmountainbooks) I think I'll have to go back and investigate book one first! Thanks for the topic. I'll have me a look!

Tim | 8539 comments Sounds like my cue to get up to date with JT!

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments Bought this the other day. Looking forward to it!

Jay-me (Janet) | 3787 comments I read this last month, but for some reason Amazon wouldn't let me review it.
I got an email saying that
it didn't adhere to their guidelines.
Can't think why as all I said was that I had waited to read the book when I wouldn't be interrupted, & that I had enjoyed it as I have the previous books in the series.

John Wakefield | 8 comments Good enough read for me to want to know what happens. A book where you don't have too think too much; an easy & fun ride which I do like at times - don't always want a Dickens.
Saying that I don't think I will be looking up the other books I've missed.

Tim | 8539 comments I'm chugging through this. As a Rochester lad (and born in Chatham too), it's nice to read a "local" book that isn't Dickens!

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments I've just started it and I'm enjoying it already :)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments I loved this! Love genealogy and the two stories worked really well together! Now just need to figure out which ones I've read and which I haven't so I can read the rest :)

message 17: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I've enjoyed all Steve's books. He's got an easy-to-read style without it being simple. If you get me drift? ;)

message 18: by Steve (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments I asked Mrs R to pick a number between 3 and 17 for the winner of the giveaway. She chose number 12 and the 12th entry was by Jay-me (Janet). Congrats. :o)

Please email or PM me the book of your choice from the current four in the series, and let me know where to send it of course, and I'll get it in the post to you.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Yay Janet!

And yay Steve! Very generous of you!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Erm. I need a paperback. Gotta keep my collection up to date!
