What an adorable book! I was reading through the comments for this book and one of the ones at the top was a 1 star, didn’t finish because it was offensive the main character compares coming out about her profession to her best friend coming out of the closest.
What do you all think about the comparison?
I finished this today and thought it dragged from time to time, though it had some romcom elements in the end. The author couldn´t quite decide what to describe, a romance (too many sad elements and unsteady people) or a book about the chronic illness she and her heroine Rachel share. Lots of Jewish holidays, food and rites, but not sure what kind of Judaism the people there practice. On the one hand very strict, but then men and women together in the synagogue. Even a mention of the Holocaust isn´t missing.About your question, Lisa, I think you mean coming out of the closet? (English isn´t my native language) I can only tell from outside (neither being homosexual or Jewish), but I´d say that being homosexual is much harder - even nowadays - than having a job your religion or perhaps religious parents don´t appreciate. I can relate to people judging that as offensive.
