Missing page numbers or publication date?If you a reading an actual copy of a book but the GR record doesn't exist or doesn't have page numbers, we can help.
If the book exists on GR but needs an original publication date or page number, leave a link to the exact edition here with the missing information and I'll add it for you.
If you can't find your edition in GR but the book has an isbn number, leave that number and all the relevant info here and I'll add it for you.
If you can't find your edition at all and it has no isbn, it can still be added to the record, with pertinent details.
Any GR librarian can also do this for you, and SRC has a thread of very helpful people who will be glad to lend a hand. You do need to ask far enough ahead of posting the task that they have time to fix it and for the record to adjust online. It's not necessarily instantaneous.
Meg wrote: "Could you please verify classics for Howl’s Moving Castle?"Verified for Classics. It's fun - enjoy!
Kristina Simon wrote: "Could I get a MPG of Classics noted for The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy? Thanks!"Verified. Have fun!
Teri-K wrote: "Tanvi wrote: "Please verify The Great Gatsby for mpg classic""Verified Classic. Hope you like it.
Morning. Could you confirm that you can see and accept Classics for: SPQR: A History of Ancient Rome. I'm guessing it has it, as it's about the Classical period.
Thanks.

It does have MPG Classic, so you're good to go. I look forward to your rating - I've wondered if it's good.
I have a question for you or maybe the mods...
I am planning to listen to Don Quixote which definitely has more than 760 pages and I thought would work for Option 4. But when I sort by MMPB according to the rules for page count to get my entry ready so I can just copy when I am finished, the first one to be listed only had 200+ pages.
Can I still use this book? The first copy listed (3rd from top) that is obviously the unabridged version is 1200+ pages.

Mod Note
A translation of the Turkish description indicates that it is abridged.
If you listen (and link) to an unabridged audio edition, you should use Don Quixote

Thanks. This is the audio book I am going to listen to: Don Quixote. It is hard to tell in the picture of the cover, but it does say unabridged. Is there somewhere in the GR record that should say that too? Should I ask a librarian to fix the record, if so?

Unfortunately, someone combined abridged and unabridged editions, so neither of those links works. They both go to the same collection of editions whose most popular mmpb is a 289-page abridgement.
for option 3 - can i use authors middle name if its on the cover? For Those Who Are Lost - Julia Bryan Thomas (I need the R from her middle name)
Dee wrote: "for option 3 - can i use authors middle name if its on the cover? It's not the cover of the book that matters though, it's the GR record.

I understand completely. :)
I've been humming Singin' in the Rain since I saw your task yesterday! Can you please verify each of these for pub date and also classics? (I recognize that only Only Daniel Deronda fits option 4. I could combine one of the others with something else.) Thanks!
1876 -Daniel Deronda, by George Eliot, classics, 796 pages
1876 - Tom Sawyer, classics, 244 pages
1967 - Spring Snow byYukio Mishima, 389 pages.
1976-Too Loud a Solitude, 102 pages,
Has anyone else had a problem with missing publication dates in your to-read lists? When I sorted by page, I found many many pages of books with no publication date. (It even included books I already read.) I hope it's a temporary glitch.

It might be that you have selected a copy that is an ebook or audiobook or maybe just an older edition that never got entered completely in GR. Of course, with classics, it's sometimes impossible to find your particular edition out of hundreds or thousands. Getting the ok in this thread is probably the best idea, when in doubt.

I can verify them for classics, I can't verify for page length as that depends on the edition you read. (You didn't ask, I'm adding that for others who may read this.)
I'm going to add a note about page numbers and dates toward the head of this thread, so please check it out as soon as I can get it posted. (Getting Grandkids off to school this morning.) It is a common problem we can fix, so thanks for mentioning it.
Verified for Classics and 7 & 6 in year:

Teri, is there a reason you didn't verify for publication year 1976?
Julia wrote: "Teri-K wrote: "Julia wrote: "Please verify Roots: The Saga of an American Family as MPG Classics and published in 1976."Verified for classics. That takes me back, as I was in colleg..."
I missed that you asked for that. Sorry. It's verified for publication year, too. Thanks for pointing out that I missed it!
I'm not sure, but sometimes the "date pub" doesn't seem to show up because the record detail does NOT have a "date first published". If this is the case, a librarian should be able to get something in to that spot.
Hi guys, was just wondering if Anne of Avonlea (second of the green gables series) would count as a classics as the MPG says classics but I know it technically also falls into the childrens section also. It is 419 pages (The copy that I have anyway I also do not understand how that works as different copies have different page numbers due to font size. Sorry for all of the questions, I am a newb!

Welcome to SRC! Don't feel bad for asking questions, we all have them. You have several different questions here, let's go through them and see if I can help you figure them out.
First, yes Anne of Avonlea has "classic" on the main page, but it also has "childrens", so you have to look further to know if you can use it for SRC. This task doesn't exclude "childrens" books, so you can go to the next step.
Second, go to Accelerated Reader at https://www.arbookfind.com/ and if it asks who you are say you're a parent. Then put your book title in the search box and look for the title and author of the book you're reading. You'll see a line that says IL: MG - BL: 8.6 - AR Pts: 16.0. (This is the line you copy and submit with the task to prove the book works.)
Here's what to look for. If it says LG or LY you can't use the book at all for SRC. If it says MG+ or UG you can use the book and don't need to look further here. If it says, MG, as it does, you must look further. If the BL is 5 or over, and the AR points are 7 or over, you can use the book for any task that allows children's books to be used. So you can use this book for this task.
For page numbers, if you read the physical book you use the page count of that book you read. Just be sure to link to the correct edition when you post. If you read an ebook or audiobook you will need to follow the rules in Rules and Deafault Rules on SRC.
I hope this helps you understand how it works. I apologize if it's more detail than you wanted, but I thought it might help you to understand how to walk through the process. Happy reading!

Emily wrote: "You are a gem this helps tremendously, I was so confused when trying to understand the premise of including potential childrens books in the rules/guidelines so this has explained it much more in depth for me, bless you"You're more than welcome; I'm glad I helped. There's a big learning curve for some of this stuff, and I'm a retired teacher, so that comes out at times. May I suggest copying this and saving it somewhere so you can refer to it for a while? I still look some points up, and I've been doing this for years.
Let us know if you have other questions. As any teacher will tell you, if you have a question chances are good that someone else does, too. lol

I love watching old movie musicals, and rainy spring days are the perfect time to brighten up your life with some fun singing and dancing. These tasks celebrate a few of my favorites.
Choose two different tasks, or use Option 4.
The minimum number of pages to read is 760.
Required: State the options.
Option 1. Music Man: Seventy Six Trombones
This rousing song may leave you whistling or humming for days.
Read a book with both 7 and 6 in the original publication year.
Option 2. My Fair Lady
This story is based on the play Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw, which is itself based on a Greek myth.
Read a book with the MPG Classics.
Option 3. Singing in the Rain
Read a book with all the letters RAIN in the author's name.
Option 4. Binge Watching
Read ONE book which is at least 760 pages that satisfies two of the previous options.
REQUIRED: You must state which two options the book meets.
For example, David Copperfield by Charles Dickens will work for Options 2 & 3, 882 pages
