Play Book Tag discussion

I have really liked Paula McLain in the past, but I did not enjoy this book. It was dark, and contains themes of abuse and loss. It's a crime mystery. Rather painful to engage in. But finally it is finished.

For those for whom this is relevant, it took me the entire book to understand why it was a 2022 October Fall Flurries Book, (for Candle number 12). I wasn't going to let it count, even though I had plunged through this entire difficult thing. But... I am going to let it stand, because it becomes obvious by the end of the book, that the whole thing takes place in the month of October.

I wondered how you would react as it is very different than her other books and doesn't seem to fit your reading preferences .

Part of what kept me interested is I am quite familiar with that part of California. I love it. Also, sadly I am familiar with the events which happened in the book. Because of this I did rate it higher than you did.

I liked this a lot more than you did - I found it hard to get into at the start, but when I was into it, I didn't want to put it down.
