The second theme for May 2023 is Hard SF. Please post your nomination in this thread.

You can use the hard SF bookshelf (https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...) to select a book, but keep in mind our shelves aren't perfect and may include or exclude relevant books.

Nominations open until March 13.

Stephen Burridge | 1123 comments I’ll nominate In the Ocean of Night by Gregory Benford. Fix-up novel that was nominated for Nebula in 1977. I haven’t read much Benford. It looks like his better-known Timescape was already read by the group.

Halting State by Charles Stross, to check whether it got very obsolete, for it was out in 2007 and is about 2018

Yeah, I think the group read it very early in its existence (before my time). I may tackle it later this year if there's time.

I nominate Redshift Rendezvous by John E. Stith. Also a one-hit wonder, this one seems pretty obscure.

Any other nominations for May, Hard SF? So far we have:

In the Ocean of Night by Gregory Benford
Halting State by Charles Stross
WWW: Wake by Robert J. Sawyer (note: first of a trilogy)
Redshift Rendezvous by John E. Stith

It's the only one nominated; I don't think we'd be obligated to finish it even as a challenge, unless the group wanted to.

Stephen Burridge | 1123 comments Looking at the book description I just realized I have read Halting State, my notes say in 2012. The title didn’t ring any bells. (Often the case for me.)
