Nothing But Blackened Teeth - Cassandra Khaw

This is a horror novella about a group of friends that are staying at an ancient Japanese mansion for a wedding celebration. Unfortunately, the mansion is haunted by both ghosts and supernatural beings out of Japanese folklore and mythology. It was an interesting take on the haunted house genre. Unfortunately, all of the human characters were pretty unlikeable which made it hard for me to care what happened to them. I was interesting to see how the story would end, but I was not connected to any of the characters. In fact, there were times I was rooting for the ghost. That said, I liked how the horror of the story came more from the psychological effects of the spirits on the humans more than the violence of the spirits themselves. Overall, an interesting read if you enjoy haunting house stories but don't expect to like anyone in the story.
