I uploaded a video on Keiron Pim's biography on Joseph Roth called Endless Flight: The Life of Joseph Roth in the video section of our group.
The book’s focus on the Trotta backstory, Carl Joseph’s mental health and poor fit in his position, and the view of the Emperor in old age seems to be a metaphor for the empire. It did not fit with the times. How is history repeating?
I have difficulties identifying with any of the characters and the prevailing mentality seems so outdated.

Those who might want to buddy read a book from Austria / about Austria are also welcome to start a new topic in this folder.
Our bookshelf has the following titles from Austria so far:
The Radetzky March by Joseph Roth (suggested by Jax)
Lässliche Todsünden by Eva Menasse (read by Anetq in Danish)
Dunkelblum by Eva Menasse (read by Orgeluse in German)
I am tempted to read one of the following novels:
Vienna also by Eva Menasse (her debut novel translated into English)
The Spider's Web by Joseph Roth (his debut and a novella)
Hotel Savoy also by Joseph Roth (also a novella)
If you should be planning to read or should be reading another piece of literature from Austria (classic or contemporary) feel free to post your thoughts about it here.
