Tangerine question

My class is almost finished reading this novel. They have enjoyed the book and have made some great connections to their own lives and lives of people they know and it has generated some great writing pieces.

I am looking for recommendations from people for similar novels, or, short stories.

My class also enjoyed Tunes for Bears to Dance to by Robert Cormier. I need something without swear words, or scenes with sexual situations as that would not be allowed. That is why I am not able to use any stories by Chris Crutcher.
