I know we're only at the end of October but if you have any ideas or suggestions for the group going forward in 2024 please make a comment below. This will give the moderators time hash things out.

I hope everyone has a lovely holiday season.

Nike | 74 comments I really love the Multi year challenge and I'd love something similar.
Maybe a challenge where one reads crime novels from different countries or from different decades?

Good idea. I had given up on the challenges because we didn't have much participation but if folks want some challenges we can do that.

Rubena | 66 comments Like Nike, I really enjoyed this challenge, although technically I still have The Silent Patient to go, because it made me read subgenres like cozy mysteries with animals or people doing craft, that I normally would never look at. I have to admit that I enjoyed them. I wouldn't mind doing as Nike suggested, crime novels from different countries. It would be a great way to know new authors and learn about different countries and cultures. So I'm up for whatever you all decide.

Thanks for commenting, challenges are on the list.

Alice | 110 comments How about a challenge for mysteries around the world. We can push ourselves to read mysteries set in different countries.

message 7: by Shayla (new)

Shayla McBride | 14 comments Alice, love that idea. There's some really great mysteries set in India, at least one of them with a female protagonist. Africa as well. I'm disregarding Europe as I figure most avid readers know of Jo Nesbo (Norwegian noir), C. S. Harris (Regency), and Donna Leon (Venice). I do have two suggestions: John Burdett (Bangkok) and Timothy Hallinan (also Bangkok but very different). I'm reading Burdett's The Last Six Million Seconds right now and it is outstanding.
Can anyone point me to South or Central American mysteries?

Rubena | 66 comments Hi Shayla,
I've read a couple from Brazil. There is the Chief Inspector Mario Silva series that was written by Leighton Gage and Luis Alfredo Garcia-Loza's Inspector Espinoza series. Don't know if they'll be to your liking. I've got Burdett on my TBR list.

Rubena, thank you. Always looking for new ones. I note you read a lot of series. One you might check out is the Martin Walker series starring Chief Bruno of the St Denis police in Perigord, France. Walker is deep into the culture and cuisine of the area and he does great plots. There's over a dozen of them.

Thanks Shayla, Yes, I do read lots of series. Love getting to know the characters. I will certainly check him out.

Storm Bay (stormbay) I like the idea of a mystery tour, but a flexible one where I can do something like Darlene or something involving international travel or even a mix.
